Capella

I just got back from one week at the Capella Beach Resort on Juan Dolio beach. Capella is really beautiful and very clean! I found the Dominican people to be warm and friendly. My husband and I would recommend this resort in a heartbeat. We also took the Saona Beach and Catamaran tour with Premier Tours ($70.00). It was worth every penny. The barbeque they served was delicious(my husband and I are very prudent food critics). If you are looking for the turqoise water with powder sand beaches, you won't find it at the Capella. Their beach is very clean (everything about this resort is clean). They rake the sand every morning. It reminded my of Cape Cod. There is seaweed and the sand is a tan color. My husband went golfing at the Metro. He said it was ok. It cost him $75 (American dollars) for 18 holes and a golf cart. He said he was the only one on the golf course. He wanted to try "Teeth of the Dog", but it took over an hour to get there. The Metro is only 5 minutes away. If there is anything else anyone needs to know, I'll do my best.

Thanks for the information Maggie. We are going to the Cappella in March. Your message sounds encouraging except for the beach part. Is it rocky? Is it horrible ? The reason I'm asking is that this will be the first time for my parents in the Carribbean (also their first trip in 35 years) and my mum really wants to see turquoise waters...Would we see this on the trip to Saona Island maybe ?

Did the Capella offer bottled water included in the all-inclusive ?

Thanks for your help in advance.

Capella is a lovely hotel. Your parents will enjoy it. Make sure the boat you take to Saona is a big one (holds at least 12 persons), especially when going with your parents, as small boats jump through the waves and it can be bumpy for your parents. You will see the perfect waters you dream of in Saona. Definitely take that trip.

Hi Norman, No the beach is not rocky, in fact it is very clean. The whole resort is spotless! When I booked my trip, one of my requirements was to stay at a place that had the white sand and turqoise water. I was very clear about this. I wanted to wake up to that every day, and made that point very clear to my travel agent. I was assured by not only the agent, but also two tour operators that the Capella had this type of beach. If I had not cared about the white sand and turqoise water, I would have no complaints about my vacation. I blame my travel agent for misinformation. Don't get me wrong, Capella is beautiful! Both my husband and I highly recommend it. The Dominican people are so friendly and kind! The food was good and plentiful, and ohhhhh the coffee. Wish I had a cup now. I have no doubt that you will really enjoy your vacation. Have a wonderful time.

Oh Norman, I forgot, you will absolutly love Saona Island. We went with Premier Tours. It cost $70 per person (US dollars). It includes food and all the rum and coke you can drink. The barbeque on the beach was awesome! The catamaran ride was great! The speed boat ride was an adventure. We stopped in the natural swimming pool on our ride back. It was great. This excursion was worth every penny. Don't miss it!

Norm,

I stayed at the Metro Marina (next door, 2 min walking distance) and I agree with everything that was said so far. I also had a good friend that was staying at the Capella at the same time, so I was over there alot as well. The resort is beautiful and yes, very very clean. The water was not turqoise like I had hoped, it was acctualy a little murky, (from the sand and stuff but still clean if you know what I mean) and very warm :). And Defenitly go on the Saona tour, WOW, powder sand blue water, the only problem was that it was one day and not all week!!! Don't miss that tour.... Just my $.02 If you have any questions just ask!! Check out the link below...
