Has anyone spent their vacation at the Casa Marina Reef hotel in Sousa? We are thinking of going there in the spring. Has anyone had good or bad experiences at that hotel?

See my review at http://www.dr1.com/hotels/database/NorSosCasaG3LNG63V.htm or click on the link below. The Casa Marina Reef and the Casa Marina Beach are pretty much the same resort, with a different name given to each half. Almost all facilities are shared between the two halves.

Read the reviews submitted but take tham for what they're worth. Casa Marina Beach and Reef probably a 3 star. I have heard different opinions about both but overall OK. Reviews depend on a person's own perception ie a "fussy" individal could complain about itsy bitty things and another could brush them off. Casa Marina Reef or Beach are OK in their price range. Have a nice vacation.

I have stayed there many times.
Nice, well secured beach with a bar. I just loved the jacuzzi which is very close to the swimming pool and a 2 minute walk to the beach. Casa marina reef shares its beach with casa marina hotel (same company). You can share the facilities of the other resort as well as the entertainment activities.
There are a few hammocks to relax the afternoon away reading a book or sharing it with a love one. At night, one can sit by the reef and just enjoy the silence the ocean has to offer and the ever-so-soothing breeze from the sea.
Enjoy your stay there and leave your worries at home.
P.S, do I sound like a tour operator trying to sell you a vacation? Ha ha ha

Jim Hinsch gave a very negative report of the food and beverage service at the casa marina reef. He said there was only 6 bottles at the bar and the food was not very good and the service was terrible. Were you able to get a beer at the bar? Do you have any comments on this. Any comments would be appreciated.

I was there 2 years ago, and we had a great time. I guess it really all depends on how much you travel and what you are used to. I am a middle class female who traveled with my boyfriend. I have traveled to Mexico, and other islands. I felt it was clean, comfortable, and the service was fine. No, it isn't a top notch resort, but again, if you want top notch service, etc, you will have to pay for it. I think a vacation is what you make it, and who you are with. If you are looking for imperfections, you will be sure to find them where ever you go. If you are looking for a safe clean vacation someplace warm and relaxing, you will find it there.

a great resort for the price you pay. the food is so,so,their is one meal a week that is very good i'm talking about allthree meals of the day here, and one that is horrible some how they even screw up breakfast, all the rest are the so,so type but you can always pick something out so you are never hungry.they may run out of glasses once in awhile but i don't recall them running out of beer. this is a great resort to have a good holiday you will enjoy yourself.you will be in sousa so go for a walk around town, just watch crossing streets, they will run you over anything else you heard about it not being safe for tourists is just a bunch of bull...have a good time...

We were there a last April and had a real nice time. The resort is within walking distance of just about anywhere you'd wanna go in town. I'm not a picky traveler. As long as I have air conditioning, clean sheets and access to fresh water and food, I'm just fine. I found the staff friendly and bar service certainly was adequate. There seems to be a shortage of wine glasses at meal time though.

Be sure and visit the bar just outside resort gate. They make a mean Banana mama and the girls working the bar are about the prettiest I've ever seen. The owner was busy building a dance floor with brass poles for pole dancing the day we left. He says he just wants people to come and have a good time and he describes his place as a PG13 strip club. hehehe

I don't think the review was negative. Some of the comments were negative, some were positive. This is not a 5 star resort, so I would not expect all positive remarks. I was honest and didn't sugar coat it. Expect it to be as described, and you won't be disappointed.

Some of the positive comments:

Casa Marina is a beautiful and massive resort with an excellent location on a nice beach...

... a reasonable price.

... An all-inclusive property, complete with 3 swimming pools, water sports center, 4 restaurants, and cement platform studded rock cliffs for taking in the sun. Rooms are basic and two of the pools are gigantic. Overall, a very beautiful property.

From the Summary:
Overall, a fair to good rating. ...it still is a fair overall value. If you like really nice pools and want to be on a nice private beach, or if you enjoy hanging out in the sun undisturbed, this is a very pretty place.

We had a good time. We didn't like the food, drinks, service, or ammenities. But we didn't pay much either and found some great places right outside the resort. With the low price, we could easily afford to eat and drink outside the resort, and just use the food and drinks the resort provides as snacks and filler.

Hey Guys: You get what you pay for. I think all-inclusive
"sucks" but "different strokes,,," I recently spent three days in an AI (In the middel of nowhere). The food, intertainment etc. was SUPER but after the 2nd day "Yack". Bottom line, you will get what you pay for (or deserve)but nothing beats the old flight only or flight and hotel vacation.

what kind of night life exists outside the resort?are the bars open half the night?i like to party, and can honestly dump quite a spill of liqour back.as far as "you get what you pay for" all im looking for is a week away from home, no responsibility,a little site seeing, possibly some fishing, and some really enjoyable nights.
this is my first actual vacation ever!im hoping i never made the wrong choice going all inclusive.im starting to get the idea that everything is not as it is in the pictures.ha ha ha!(is it ever?)
i know ill have a great time, and i certainly appreciate all the input
as far as drinking alot goes,is the booze that limited and awful that a guy would have to suffer while on the resort?

nput.

Re: Jim, how much for 1 night 2 adults?

You'd have to check with the hotel or a tour operator. The price is about US$75 per person +/- US$10.

If you're going to the Reef, no problem. Your in town (Sosua) From what I hear the food is good and there's plenty of booze. The all-inclisive bar closes down at 23:00 but there are 200+ bars in town. (Way to many) Several are open 24hrs. You'll find everything from Typical Dominican, sidewalk, hooker bars, discos, strip and of course the best sports bar in the DR.
