My wife heard a rumour that the company that is taking over Cayo Levantado's hotel will also be paying off handsomely all the locals who work there and/or have businesses on the isla. She heard the figure of a million pesos/person. They apparently want to make the island exclusive or semi-exclusive to the hotel guests. And that's likely the best scenario for the island in my opinion. Who knows if one - local or tourists staying elsewhere - will be able to hang out there on the beach for a day. Still not clear who is doing the work - french company, panamanian company or Hippo Construction S.A. - but seems they're working away. Anybody hear anything new or similar about this?
