Central Romana cleared to export sugar to US

President Luis Abinader announced during his Monday, 17 March 2025 press conference that the US government has revoked the export impediment against Central Romana sugar exports. Effective 23 November 2022, the US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) had banned shipments of raw sugar and sugar-based products produced in the Dominican Republic by Central Romana Corporation. A new order allows the exports.

The alternative is high fructose corn syrup and that one has the “advantage” of not making people feel full when they eat too much. The obese you say?

Now, they do have a point when they say soda taste better when made with real sugar than with high fructose corn syrup.

I really do hope that’s how they are cutting Central Romana’s sugar cane. More like the 21st century and less like the 19th!
