Recently back from the Dominican Republic and whilst there made a trip to el Centrop Leon. Got to say I was disappointed - the building and layout is impressive but where are the exhibits? The art gallery had some real rubbish and the anthropology section was all style and no substance. Santo Domingo's Musuem of the Dominican Man is still the best. Centro Leon gave the impression it is primarily a PR exercise for the Le?n Jimenes family.

Having got that off my chest in Santo Domingo I also visited Museo Bellapart -this is excellent and if you are interested in Dominican art this is the place to go.

London, glad to hear you like the Museo del Hombre Dominicano -- it is my favorite too, though I also like the Modern Art museum. Juan Rodriguez, who runs things on an obviously tight budget, does a nice job and is a great guy. I wish they would allocate more funds to these museums though. The Centro Leon, to be fair, does have outstanding exhibits, but it varies and they are not c0nsistent. But they have the money.
