How difficult is it to change the color of one's car? Dominicans tell me it is impossible.

I have a 98 Montero Sport that is black that gets hot as Hades in the sun and I would like to paint it white. Any input appreciated.

Of course it's possible.
Might be costly, but definitely possible.

you have to change the paperwork, put an ad in the papers about your car and its serial number and whole lots of other things. Good luck.
The color can be changed quite easily. they will strip your car to the bone and then repaint it all from inside out. watch out where they will store the parts stripped out form your car because they just throw it away in some corner and it will get dirty, plastic strips wiil break and it it rains hard, the water damage can become a reality. So supervise the work. I have a place in my mind, who can change the color for you and cheap.

I would think that living in 30 - 40 degree Celsius weather any color would get hot no?

Is a white car any cooler?:ermm:

Anna is right, it gets hot as hell inside the car, no matter the color

It does make a difference, but probably not enough to merit the effort and expense involved.

There's no law that says you can't change the colour of your car, and if it makes you feel more comfortable, keep the receipt from the paint shop that did it, in the glovebox.
As for white being cooler than black, it sure is, but it still gets hot.
The main advantage of the white is how much less time it takes for the AC to cool it off.
Personally, I wouldn't do it, as the price is prohibitive, but if I planned to paint the car anyhow, then I would consider it.
A colour change paint job, does cost more than same colour.

Chip, I used to live in a much hotter country and learnt that black attracts the sun more than white, I could never understand why all the women walked around covered in black when this was so. Yes you can change the colour, theres a terrific guy in Sosua Abajo that does good work for a reasonable price. Yes you can have your matricular changed the same day in Puerto Plata if you are sweet to the guy in charge. I have a black jeep now and have just sold my white one and to be honest Chip, the black one was hotter as Chiri says, but its not worth the time, cost and worry you may have in changing it. This reminded me I need to change the colour of my curtains, but I'll start another thread for that. I think my request is going to be a lot harder than yours as so far no-one knows what Im talking about.

Thanks for all of the replies. I planned on repainting it anyway so because of some damage to the bodywork after a tire exploded and was just wanting to do the research now.
