I plan to leave march 25 to santo domingo until march 31st, is their any way I can get a cheap fare for those days. I heard that aa had fares for 320 but now is 440. Is their any chance that the fares will go down again? It doesn't matter what airline. I was also trying to find out fares in asd. :classic:

If Josephine thinks it is a good idea to wait one week before to see if there's a sale she's likely to find out what it is like to buy a $2,000 ticket.

Josephine you have 2 choices since you seem to want to be there on a certain date - buy a ticket now to get the known price and an assured seat and flight or wait until the last minute for a sale that may not happen, then pay full fare, maybe 3 or 4 times the price you mention.

BTW, if you buy a $440 ticket and AA drops the price on the same type of ticket you can call them and they give you a voucher for the difference - not $$$ but you can use it for AA travel for a year.

If I had to be in the DR on a specific date, I would also not wait until the week before hoping for a "special" fare! However, Josephine asked how she could get a "cheap" fare, thus my response!
I will be waiting for a "weekend special" to go to Puerto Plata to make wedding arrangements for my daughter!!

You are correct about wanting a "cheap fare" but she laid out a specific set of dates (3/25 to 3/31) and there's the rub, you can't have it both ways usually. I would not recommend someone wait until the middle of March hoping for AA do do netsavers. And since she wants to leave Thursday and come back on a Wednesday that's outside the normal netsavers boundary anyway for these flights. AA is dumping low volume flights since the freight is coming anyway, may as well get something up top for the trouble.

Best bet buy the ticket and maybe get a rollover if you fly enough to use the voucher in the future.

cheap fares to dr

I don't really have to leave and come back on those dates, i could be flexible just to get a cheap fare. I just pick those dates. The return date is not that important because i usually stay longer.

AA Net Savers

Josephine,

Your best bet is to sign up for the Net Savers through www.aa.com. This way, you get the email the same day they release the net savers. Most of the time, these net savers sell out very quickly. I just purchased one of the net savers this week for next weekend and within a couple of hours my friend wanted to purchase one also, and they were already sold out.

Check AA.com for Netsavers, just be aware since they are selling space they don't need it is whatever they come up with from one week to the next and for these flights you almost always have to leave Friday night or Saturday and come back Monday or Tuesday. And for a lot of people this is too restrictive. So staying too long is not the deal, it may be not enough.

Otherwise if you are really flexible with the dates, just go into AA.com put in your dates and if it is too much keep changing the dates, and you may find a great deal - avoid the popular days and times and you could do pretty good.

Hey airline guru AA is not the only one flying to the DR. Remember.

Give the lady more options.

Just remember that some fares do not quote taxes and fees which can add $125.00 per ticket.

Are the AA flights posted regularly? Why are they so cheap? Last minute booking?

ASD is with taxes and fees included. I just don't want to pay more than 400 for a ticket. It doesn't matter what airline it is.

I Avoided mentioning CO Just in Case....

......she bumped into you on the trip and swore off the DR for life. Ho ho ho.

I have no idea - does CO offer weekly specials like AA does? If they do and the ONLY consideration ( as it seems to be) is the cost then by all means check CO as well, and US Air. From a large city maybe air-only charter flights (you can buy them without the hotels from tour companies that sell AI packages). Of course prices drove 6,000 victims into the arms of Aeromar so I would not go TOO down market.

They have space and no bookings and the plane goes anyway, so they sell off at prices intended to attract people at the last minute. You can see they are not all that flexible, but are good for extra-long weekends - since you generally have to leave after 6 p.m. Friday, or on Sat., and you have to come back on Mon or Tue, sometimes Wed.

So if 4 or 5 days fits, they are a great deal. AA is even selling Business Class between MIA and Santiago with various prices based on how far ahead you book - 3, 7 or 14 days, for $765 , $665, and $565.

The only other problem with the sale fares is the choices of cities is sometimes not that great. E.g. all the deals into Santiago are no good if you go to Boca Chica or Punta Cana.

I've been checking practically all airlines and their fares are basically the same. Fares starting at 440.00. I travel alot to dr and never payed more than 350 and i'm not going to start now. I've been trying with different dates but not much of difference in prices. :(

But that's me.

Did you ask at all with air-only charters? From NYC there are a lot of them, Apple Vacations, etc. If you can go for one week you may save a lot.

I guess you should enroll in Netsavers (set up an AA.com account, then configure it to make pairs of flights from NYC - JFK etc., to SDQ, PUJ, POP and STI) and each time you go to the site it will show you any deals waiting). Then just be prepared to go quick.

The simple truth is that all the airlines have prices around $440-$450 right now including CO (so 777-200: zip it) and US Air. And you either pay or don't go. If you check Expedia flights 4/25 and 5/25 and 6/25 are all at least $440.

So.without Netsavers your $350 embargo keeps you away for the next 3 or 4 months, pity.

By the way RICK look what other Airlines discussion forum are telling about your great AA:

"I strongly believe that all the cost cuts AA has put into place are a temporary bandaid and life support, AA WILL DIE!. AA has put all their cost cuts into place and assumed (wrongly) that they can hold a 30% price hike over LCC. NOT TRUE. NO ONE WILL PAY ONE PENNY MORE TO FLY AA. So AA is having to drop their prices to match LCC, they are still loosing money. Their cost right now is around 9 cents a seat mile compared to B6 around 5 and WN at around 6.
AA also has over 22 BILLION in debt. Their interest alone is 1 BILLION a year. Only in two years of Americans entire history did they ever make 1 billion. Thus this makes it impossible for them to even make their interest payments. They have only 3 Billion (ALL BORROWED MONEY) and virtually no lien free assets. AA is basically already Bankrupt!. They will be gone by end of 2005!"

I was not me. Nice comments about 22 Billion in debt. mmmmmmmm

I'm going the week before you and bought my tixs 2 weeks ago. I'm paying 320 . AA wanted 390 with me leaving on a Sat. I got the 320 by leaving on a Fri. AA is aware of the fact that the AIs book most people Sat to Sat and take ADVANTAGE of that (hence the card "American Advantage ")

BTW JFK to Sto Do
