What are some of the cheapest hotels in santo domingo? I was looking for one in Gascue or the ZOna Colonial but I am very flexible. I will be spending 2-4 weeks there.

If you are there for 4 weeks , you might wanna try one of the aparthotels en Zona Gazcue. I stayed at one back many years ago for a month and I think it was about 220 a week. Residence City was the name. I couldn't remember info, so I googled and got this address Jose Contreras No. 28B
Zona Universitaria Santo Domingo tel. 809-682-6205..
It was safe and comfortable back then, but it has been nearly 5 years since I was there. There are others in the area that appeared from the outside to be safe also.

I stay often at the Hotel Freeman in the Zona Colonial, on Calle San Isabel la Cat?lica. It's about $32 dollars a night. In Gazcue I stay at the Hotel Mystik on Calle Pasteur between Avenida Independencia and the Malec?n. The Mystik charges $55 per night and includes free breakfast.

I stayed in Hotel Danae - Hotel La Danae

It costs 1000 DOP a day, send them an e-mail and ask for the price.. because when you just walk in they'll say 1200 DOP so I showed them the print and they switched it up real quick! :)

It's a 5 minute walk from Colonial Zone and a 10 minute walk from Malecon (taxi is around 200 DOP)

When you walk out the hotel to the right, when you walk out of the street you can take buses that going to Colonial Zone or your connection to Venezuela or everything for that matter to cross that bridge.

When you walk out the hotel to the left, it takes to streets / blocks to take the bus that will take you to the west side.

In all honesty, I'm young so walking on a daily base to Colonial Zone didn't bother me at all.. if you're at age you're better of taking a taxi / bus every time or else you just stay in Colonial Zone.

Hotel is clean, there is wi-fi, no breakfast, no washing machine (you need to pay the maids like 200) and very safe.

It's a good one..

As previously mentioned Hotel La Danae. If you walk that general area (Calle Danae, Calle Santiago, and Avenida Pasteur) there are probably a dozen or more small inexpensive hotels.

Probably best thing is just make a reservation and once you are in Santo Domingo go visit a few other hotels in the area and pick the one that you like the best. In the general area of calle danae are several other hotels which don't have a webpage but from the outside appear to be nice, clean hotels. I have walked that area many a times day and night and felt quite safe. At night seems just about every block has a night watchie sitting outside one of the buildings. Hostal Yu on Pasteur has also been mentioned as a good option.
