Chin and Chon

The D.R. is the first country in which I've heard the ubiquitous word "chin." Of course, the interpretations are relative, particularly as regards food!

Recently, I just discovered the antonym: chon, probably with accent over the "o."

What's your take on chin and chon?

Chin is small, chon is a chunk/big

My wife gets up and I ask her if she wants some coffee. Her reply is "si mi amor, pero un chin por favor". Chon on the other hand gets me. The only time I've heard the word used is "La Chon" Roast pig.

There was some detergent that said "lava un chon, con un chin" or something similar.

I catch myself saying un chin while in say colombia, mexico, argentina or chile and I get weird looks of course.

That would be lechon, the proper translation of suckling pig.

Actually, it makes more sense than chin because chin is exclusive to the DR. No other Spanish-speaking country uses that word or expression. On other the hand, poco, poquito, poquitico (or poquitito) is very common in the Spanish-speaking world even with the diminutive (poquito) and the diminutive of the diminutive (poquitico)

Note the correct spelling and not what you saw on a text.
