I like smoking LA AURORA Cigars (a habit I picked up after my first visit in Jan. 04). Can anyone tell me if their Factory offers tours? I'd love to go if they do? ;) I assume it's located in Santiago - the Cigar capitol of La Republica Dominicana!

Yes they do

If you are coming to the North Shore, I would suggest that you send me a PM (Just click on my name), and we can talk about it.

The tour is rather bland. If you enjoy cigars, I would suggest a visit that is more intimate and hands& nose on. If you are not a cigar fan, then forget it and I'll take you ovver to the Aurora factory.
No charge for any of this, BTW.
Depending on when you are planning your trip, you might be able to see part of the harvest process..

Cordially,

check out the Centro Leon Jimenes, located in Santiago. There is a replica of an early 20th century Dominican cigar factory at the Centro Cultural Leon Jimenes in Santiago that offers "tours".

how was the tour?

How did you make out with the tour?
I am looking for some info about the cigar factories in La Romana. Do they offer tours as well. Is the pricing right for Dominican cigars there, or am I better off stocking up in the US? Still would love to see the factory. Anyone with any ideas on how to do this?

When my sons visited from the US we went to the Centro Cultural. It is very interesting to see these expensive cigars being rolled by hand. You can also question those doing the rolling.

Re: La Romana and La Aurora

The fellow never got in touch, that I can remember.

Anyway, in La Romana, the Tabacalera GArc?a does have tours. They are now called Altadis and represent one of the largest cigar concerns in the world.
Prices are generally a bit cheaper than in the States.

However, I do not think you can beat jrcigars.com for good buys.

As for the Centro Le?n, it is indeed something to go see and to take some time to visit. On the right is a "replica" of the original building's fa?ade and inside is an exclusive cigar store as well as a working group that make only the Preferido cigar for the company- a huge success. There are poliglot guides that can explain what you are looking at in four or five languages.

L. Leon Jimenes Factory Tour.

:smoke: Hillbilly, I haven't gotten down to the DR. yet. I'll be down next month. I have no idea where in Santiago the factory is located? I do have the address though. I plan to take a Metro Bus from Puerto Plata to Santiago. Hopefully I'll be able to locate the factory from there, and not get lost! Do you know if it's possible to tour working tabbaco farms in the area? As for buying some La Aurora's at the factory store, are they as cheap as buying them at local supermarkets? That's where I found them for the best price on my last trip - 974 pesos for a case of 25 Robusto's.

tours and cigars

good evening,
doing some cigar research prior to the trip in 4 weeks to Caso de campo. The preferidos sound like a great smoke. Are they available at the factory you suggested ,HB? What other brands are available at the factory? I know Altadis makes all kinds but do they only make certain kinds at the factory?
Also the supermarket prices that are refered to , is that a good source for the main line of La Aurora's?
Appreciate the advice...

At Tabacalera Garc?a (Altadis)

You will only find their brands: Henry Clay, Dunhill, Montecristo, R&J, Santa Damiana, among others.

the Preferido is available only in Santiago. They run from 13.5K RD$ per box of 25 to about 9KRD$ per box, depending on size.

I would imagine that the large store there in La Romana hase many of the cigars you might like, I know they have all of the Fuente products, but at prioces that make me want to vomit!

Your best bet for La Aurora products, aside from a factory cisit is the Supermercado Nacional..I think.
