Central American business people that own many of the City Malls in various countries on the isthmus will be building their first Caribbean mall in Santo Domingo Este. When arriving from the east (or Las Américas International Airport), when the highway turns inland and on the right is visible a large green space, that’s where City Center Santo Domingo will be located.
While the mall, which will be the largest in the DR, is what is attracting the attention for the moment, they contrmplate building several highrises to accommodate residential units, offices, etc.
Of course, the completion of this is dependent on the DR being able to contain Haiti’s issues, particularly those with the gangs, in Haiti and not cross into the DR. Those gangs are basically the only thing that could halt this and every other project in the DR including scaring away all the tourists causing a collapse of tourism.
They don’t say how many jobs will be created during and after construction, but seeing the dimensions of this they might be thousands. Something else not said is how much will the government receive from taxes alone.
