clear, clean, quiet beaches in the DR?

Hi--I am trying to decide where to go in the DR for a relaxing beach vacation with the clearest water we can find. we're not necesarily going to dive, but snorkeling would be neat.

We're not interested in the all-inclusive. villa Serena in Las Galeras looks interesting, and I keep reading about places like Playa Rincon or Cayo Levantado. And then there's the north coast--suggestions?

Also, would love recommendations of where can we stay for $100 a night or less? My main hope is to find somewhere with air conditioning (cuz we would go in August) and on or close to the beach.

Would really love suggestions from folks who have done this...

Thanks!

Las Galeras would be what you are looking for. Playa Rincon is a short distance either by 4-wheel drive or boat. Conde Nest Traveler rates it one of the best beaches in the World. Also there are other beaches, which are very good also nearby.

You can stay in Club Bonito Hotel. They have air-conditioned rooms in the new wing of the hotel. The price for one should be about $70 U.S. They will ask for more as you are a gringo I assume. Just bargain and it will come down. It is not busy in the summer.

Club Bonito 538-0203. They speak English there. They have a web sit also. www.club-bonito.com.

You can just go there and bargain with the price. There are also other hotels that are nice there also, but this one is good.

Also if you go, just down the street away from the beach there is an excellent Italian restaurant run by a guy from Florence, Italy. The prices are good and the food is great. It is on the left side. I think the name is Alberto?s
