Do these exist here? If so, how would one find them? Our washer is on the fritz so I need to outsource the laundry tomorrow. Boca Chica has a Wash Wash but it appears that this is a place where you give them your laundry and they wash/dry it for u. I would prefer to do it myself as one can do in the USA.

Thanks

They have them in Santo Domingo, coin operated just like in USA. There are attendants there who sell you the American coins you need, if you want to do it yourself. I think the sign just said Lavanderia, one was near my mother-in-law’s house.

All places with the sign Lavanderia, at least in the city center, are now some fancy places where they can wash or dry clean or iron your clothes, but they do it for you and there's nothing coin operated anymore, they have the latest generation professional washers and dryers. Maybe where are some lavanderias with old machines left, but I can't imagine where exactly it could be.

The only places where you still can find old coin operated washers and dryers are some old apartment buildings that still have those machines at the first floor exclusively for their residents.

There are plenty of good lavanderías with good washing machines and dryers. You pay by the pound - 50-60 pesos/lb in Cabarete. The clothes are returns folded.

You can also rent a Dominican-style lavadora for a day (or more) as needed. I've seen that done here in POP, usually with it being delivered to you on the back of a moto :) If you ask a few neighbors, probably one will steer you in the right direction.

Same for me. I have never seen as much sugar put in a cup of coffee until I got here.........
lol, spent any time in Cyprus.? My mother-in-law put a full tablespoon or more in those little cups. My Dominican wife doesn't use sugar in anything.

How do you know? Santo Domingo is a pretty big city with 4.5M people in it, and a lot of laundries.

Our condo association wanted to put in some coin operated washers but we couldn't find them anywhere. With the general coin shortage here, I don't know how they would work well anyways. Imagine trying to get 200-300 pesos of change for the machines. Good luck with that.

Some years ago I have lived in the old building that still has coin operated washers and dryers downstairs, and just last week I visited another building with the same looking laundry room for the residents... coincidentally both buildings were built by the same constructora many years ago. Their machines don't operate with peso coins, building's Administrator sells some handmade metal coins to the residents, I believe they just have the same size and weight as US quarters.
