How do you say "boyfriend" in spanish?

Theres this girl where I work, she doesn't speak english at all, and I speak very little spanish. I wanted to ask her if she had a boyfriend. What I found strange was when she first talked to me she asked me if I was married and then she asked if I had any kids, if anyone could shed light on that as well I would be appreciative.

As ridiculous as this question sounds, I will answer you.

It's "novio" for boyfriend and "novia" for girlfriend.

I think you are one of the few, in the whole world, who doesn't know what "boyfriend" means. Even my friend from Jupiter knows, wahahahahahaha!!.

Just kidding, many don't know, I think.

"Fiance" is "Prometido", "Fiancee" is "Prometida".

Buddy, time for you to get a Spanish/English dictionary!.

The confusion might come about because novio/novia also means bridegroom/bride - but if the context is clear it means boyfriend/girlfriend.

if she was asking you if you were married and if you had kids, don't take it to mean much, some people just know how to start conversations by asking personal questions and they see nothing wrong with that.

..........why is everyone dancing around the question?????.......it's because there are so many Dominicans that have children that have NEVER been married..............

Do me a favor:

Can you please show us where the OP said that the girl was Dominican?.

That question is asked ALL the time, when one is trying to get to know someone.

I have asked that question many times and it has NOTHING to do with having children or been married.

Maybe she asked too soon. It's a question, not the end of the world.

Btw: Because we get all types of characters is one of the reasons I "love" to post on this forum.

Even if someone asks a simple question, for example, "what 'todo' means", they get 1,000 definitions and confuse the hell out of the OP!.

Oh well....
