Computers, e-mail, and access while on vacation or just traveling
When in the DR, go to an Internet Cafe and be at YOUR computer.
I thought the next "killer app" in computers would be the one that lets us be in front of "our" computer, no matter whose computer we are in front of. Without requiring a software install.
When I go to a friend's house or an internet cafe, I'm frustrated at my computing experience. It isn't anything like sitting in front of my own computer.
It isn't set up like mine, none of my personal files, and half the time it isn't even the same version of Windows. The screen resolution is different and my friend's wallpaper is distracting.
Everything is harder than at home, especially checking E-mail. I hate accessing my mail from Yahoo or Hotmail.
The solution is here!
Remote control software has been around for a long time, but not like this. You don't have to install anything on the computer you are using for access. It's fast and for all practical purposes, you are sitting in front of your own computer.
I've been using a service that lets me connect to my computer at home via any internet connecton. I can connect to ALL my computers (they are in different locations) at the same time. Each appears as a "window" that when maximized on the screen, is like being in front of that specific computer. Complete with the windows tabs, the task bar, the start menu, and even its own separate control-alt-delete. And I can move files between the computers and even copy and paste between them.
If your computer at home (or work) has a high speed always-on connection like DSL or cable, you'll want this for when you travel.
If you're thinking about using this to get to your computer at work from home, it WILL get past most corporate firewalls because it just accesses a site. It doesn't run like a server or require any special port access.
The first thing that came to mind was that now I could surf the web from client sites, but by-way-of my computer at home, thus eliminating any restrictions my clients might have on web surfing and My clients would not be able to monitor my web activity or my E-mail.
It is fast too. I'm using it to be connect to ALL my computers at once, no matter where I am. WAY cool, no more Yahoo mail, and no more having to sync my saved mail between computers. Way cool!
