Hi
I need some help getting some idea from you fine people about approximate prices I should expect to pay for a range of home improvements. Apolgies if my questions are slightly banal

Im looking to build a simple pool house like this, link below ( I hope links are ok).

Size 4 metres(12ft) x 5 metres (15ft)

Materials - I require a concrete floor/ or weather resistant wood; 4 wood or concrete pylons/poles; a concrete roof/tiled (What are your suggestions on materials to use?)
Budget $3000us or less.
It doesn't have to be ornate, just a simple sun house that can withstand the elements.
Advice is welcome regarding materials and what a reasonable price to pay would be if made by Dominican builder

thanks

Your best bet is to go with pressure treated lumber on this one.

You can pretty much use the online calculators to provide you with a basic number on material for the project, based on your dimensions.

Treat the calculations as if building a covered deck for the backyard.

Add the eaves for the roof length and that will sum up a good basic budget for materials.

All you need is to have the poles sit atop concrete pylons to avoid premature rotting. Place brackets to receive the poles on the pylons and you’ll have a pool house soon enough.

Don’t leave anything birds can perch on, or you will have bird droppings everyday to clean up 🧹

I have been dreaming about having my own pool for five years already and I hope, that it will happen someday. It's very expensive, that's why, I need to work hard to earn more money.

You will also need $100.00 a month for chemicals, a pool boy to manage it a couple of times a week, oh!, and electricity. It's a great luxury, but it's a pain in the a$$$ to manage (according to the pool guy, I feel for him). I prefer the beach to be honest, but im too bloody lazy to walk 50 meters to the waters edge!!!

I have several friends in Cabarete and La Mulata who filled their pools with dirt. And these people are far from poor. Waterfront hotel did the same thing some years ago. Home pool is a VERY expensive and complicated thing to own. We have a pool in our US home. And we have Leslie a few blocks away. They do free water tests. For DR it is not a smart idea IMHO.
You may regret for having wasted your hard earned money.

$100/Month ? Yeah if you have an Olympic Size Pool used by 30 people a day.
Pool chemicals are about $35/mo Chemicals & testing drops for an average size pool in DR. More in Summer and much less in a "DR winter".
Mayne if you add in a new net every 6 months and a now pole one a year you get it to $50

It is not the money - it is the hard work to keep it clean - but when it is 100 degrees you remember why you had it

Filter cartridges. Burnt motor due to power interruptions. Underground water leaks. Thousands of dollars a year - a high possibility.

For a CORRECT maintenance it will be MORE than $100.
Same like with a car. One pays for tune-ups and repairs and OEM parts and premium gas and synthetic oil - to keep his car in top shape.
Another guy spends NOTHING on it. Drives it into death. To fall apart right on the road.

CORRECT chemicals are expensive. And often not available in the DR at all. And correct quality maintenance parts. One cannot compensate for them with a hard work. People fill their pools with dirt not without a good reason.

PH, hardness, alkalinity, algae, phosphates ... No amount of "hard work" will help.

Incorrect!

Pool maintenance in the DR is far cheaper than one abroad in the states!

Salt systems are plenty in use here. Chemicals can be had from an unlimited number of world suppliers by bulk.

Lacking freezing temperatures, ground conditions are more stable and piping issues are easy to address due to lack of stiff regulations to that end.

Pool covers are the norm rather than the exemption here. Pumps are installed with corresponding solar panels and batteries alongside, making filtration costs minimal.

You have two types of pool buildups here:
Cheap and expensive to maintain long term, and expensive but cheaper to maintain for the life cycle of the pool.

Pool cover the norm ? Where. I doubt one in 30 pool owners uses a pool cover. They are a waste and do you want to remove it every time you use a pool ?
Name a place we can find your friends using them. This is poppycock

You must be swimming in Chemicals. Try a sand filter and backwashing once a month

All people in my social circle who have a pool also have their pool covers.

Pool covers are put in place when it will not be in use for more than a week or during travels.

Even those with inflatable pools get theirs with covers. If you really have a pool and are speaking from experience here, then you know we have a lot of critters seeking that water as well.

Do you need me to take pics and post them here of all my family and friend’s pools too? Including their covers??????

I mean, as of lately here it seems the only thing separating hearsay from facts...

I had the same wish and also didn't want to spend much money. So I bought me an Intex Metal Frame Pool in the size 24'x 12'x52". It cost me arround 1K dollars and comes with Filter and Pump. Yes it's chinese shit, but I had it over 5 years in my patio and it works fine for the money, buying additional the maintenece set for cleaning the ground, the intex skimmer and thats it. Cheap solucion, I used him every day and when I'm traveld to germany for 3 or 4 month I dismantled the pool and store him in the house. I had an extra powermeter for the pump and I spend 1000 pesos a month in electricity. Chemicals perhaps another 1000 pesos monthly. I clean the pool once a week with the vacuum cleaner.
After 5 years we build up a house on the ground, so I sold the pool for 20 k pesos on ebay. You see, you can enjoy a pool without spending a lot of money...

If you want a true pool house, something where you can have a changing room, store some pool tools, maybe a covered sitting area, your best bet is still masonry walls and concrete roof. Easy to design and economical to build. Sketch it out and give it to a mason and his helper, they'll have it built in no time under your budget.

If you want to get fancy, have them include a brick shelf on the foundation. You can add a brick/stone veneer later by yourself to dress it up.
