Hi guys,

Hope everyone is well. I have a holiday booked to the Iberostar in Costa Dorada from the 27th September till the 13th October. Just wondering if the hurricanes had effected this area and if it looks like there will be more bad weather to come while I'm there?

Booked the holiday a while ago and now starting to get a bit worried!

Thanks

I live within a five minute drive of Costa Dorada & had NO problem with the latest hurricane (Ike). I went past Iberostar yesterday on the way to the Golf Tournament posted elsewhere on this forum - as far as I could see there was no Tidal Wave happening in the swimming pool at that time :cheeky:!!

Re future hurricanes between now & October ............. who knows for certain? I suspect there may be a couple or three in the Atlantic over the next few weeks but as they have not formed yet & have not indicated their proposed direction/passage/level of nastiness, it is impossible to put your mind at rest. May I suggest a close eye (if you will excuse the pun) be kept on 'The Weather Forum' where we will post about any 'weather disturbance' headed the way of the DR?

Thanks BushBaby, much appreciated. Found this site this morning so will keep a lookout for any news from over your way.

Out of interest, as you live so close, do you know much about the Iberostar?

Post your questions (in the North Coast Travel Forum) - chances are that one of us who's stayed there can help.

Oi watch it feller or no Bics and Tea Bags for you next year:cheeky:;)

I wasn't looking for 'bics & Tea bags' as some plonker bought me a lot last time he was here ........ but that Mike Hammer Gold Lame suit you wore :surprised to the shops could be useful in generating extra discounts at all the BOOZE stores you normally want to visit. The Girls at those stores still talk of it even now!:bunny:!:bunny:! ~ Grahame. :pirate:

Weather in May in Costa Dorado

We are thinking of visiting the Iberostar Costa Dorada in May next year can you tell me what the weather is like then and if the sea is cold. We were in Bavaro a few years ago which was beautiful but this hotel seems to get good reviews - would you agree.

Welcome to DR1!

May in the Dominican Republic is unpredictable. It's the start of the rainy season so there's always a chance of a downpour. We married @ the Iberostar in May 2004 and have returned there every year (in May) until last year and have had no problems with the weather. Mornings tend to be glorious with the clouds gathering about 3 or 4 o'clock. That's when the rain normally comes. However 1 - It's warm rain! 2 - There's plenty of shelter @ the Iberostar where you can keep out of the rain (say Hi to Elvis @ the pool bar for us will you)! 3 - After the rain has passed, everything dries up & continues as before.

As for the sea, I've always found it cooler on the North coast as it's the Atlantic rather than the warmer and sheltered Caribbean.

Don't fret about what the weather is going to be like. Just go, enjoy yourselves & have an unforgetable holiday!!

Tropical Regards
Reidy

rainy season in May starting???
maybe that northcoast is sooo different to the east.
ocean during may and june is the calmest of the whole year, not a bit of cold.
cold it is during the expensive travel times like x-mas week, and rainy, too.
but anyways,
who would know about the weather a year in advance???
at home you could not predict your weather exactly for the next weekend.

Costa Dorada In May

Thanks for the info. I just love swimming in the sea. Been to the Maldives twice and loved the fact that it is a bit like a hot bath ! I presume the hotel won't be too crowded at that time of year. Should I ask for certain room numbers. We prefer to have a quiet room and not on the ground floor.

Thanks again for the quick reply

;)
