Quick observation: If staying in BC, check this place out> I'm a bit remiss to even advertise it, don't want them to be "booked" next time I arrive. $35 per night, 2 seperate bedrooms, great A/C, complete kitchen facilities with dishes etc.TV with English Channels, Nice patio, great pool. cyber cafe with 3 terminals, no connection problems, "girls" on staff will pick up anything you wish at local stores for next to nothing (Do tip the staff, they are great people)

I don't know what else to say except its the best value I have found in DR.

Thanks to Jim Hinsch for recommendation

I do not recommend Costa Lunga

As someone who travels to Boca Chica once a month, I belive I can speak with confidence about Hotel Costa Lunga. I once thought the same, the hotel is beautiful, well kept, and at times available for $35 a night. I've stayed there one time without incident and liked it so much I reserved a room for my return in one month. I followed up the reservation with two (2) phone calls and was assured that my room and one for my friend were available at the $35 rate. When we arrived however we were showed smaller rooms for more money, $50 per night. I was told that the rooms we had last time were occupied and that the hotel was full, and the newly inflated prices would not be lowered. There are so many hotels in Boca Chica, my recommendation would be to stay at Calypso, Candil, Garant, or Casa Coco.
Submitted for your information.

Costalunga is fine

How odd that they should single you out, especially with reservations? Did you present your emaiol or confirmation number?

How can you be intimately familiar with Costalunga if you stayed there only once? Your email would help add "weight" to your comment.

I was there and had a great stay. I also had a rate change but feel the rooms a value at 50.00 a day. We also had 2 bed rooms and clean, staff is great to help. Hope you give them a try one more time.

I have stayed at Costalunga a bout 7 or 8 times. Firs time I made reservations. Every time after that, I just showed up and got a room, no problem. Sometimes you get lucky and get a room with two bedrooms for the rate normally charged for a single room. That will happen if they have no more single rooms. They just upgrade you.

I have never had any problems whatsoever there, enjoy having the CyberColmado at my disposal and the staff is great. I have never stayed any place else while in Boca.

Re: The scoop on Costa Lunga

We stayed there in December 2000. We confirmed a specific room back in September because it was a first floor room that you could walk right out to the pool from the patio door. Two days before arrival, an E-mail confirmed very specifically that the exact room we had confirmed in September was still reserved for us.

On arrival, the room we had confirmed was occupied and they put us in a room on the street side, where it gets very noisy from the road traffic. We were told the hotel is full, take it or leave it.

On checkout, they tried to increase the price from the quoted $40 to $60 per night and tried to charge us for an extra night as well. They told us they'd let it slide this time, as though they were doing us a favor letting us pay the price we had confirmed.

We booked again for January, and they have changed the price to $60. This is for the same style room Tom had for $35 in December (I saw his room) and that we had paid $40 for (two people) in December.

I wrote to the owner twice asking for at least an explanation on the price change, but he responds without an explanation and that $60 is the price.

The rooms at Costa Lunga cannot be compared to standard hotel rooms at some of the other hotels because they are small apartments, some with 2-bedrooms. I recommend that anybody who decides to stay at Costa Lunga get their confirmation with the room style and price in writing. They are still a decent value but no longer the great deal they were in the past.

The Costalunga's prices have been inconsistent since they opened about 2 years ago and they have been known to give discounts for long term stays.

service and the room was as advertised.

Re: The scoop on Costa Lunga - update *PIC*

I had a conversation with the management at Costa Lunga today and the reason for the price differences that we encountered was explained.

Guests are upgraded for no additional charge if the particular room type requested isn't available but a larger apartment is. The 2-room apartment that Tom got for US$35/night was an upgrade. Additionally, they will sometimes give frequent guests a complementary upgrade, space available, of course.

The following are their current prices:

1-room apartment: US$35, $5 for each additional person
2-room apartment: US$60, $10 for each additional person
3-room apartment: US$80, $10 for each additional person

Towel service is applied based on the number of people.

This is a very clean, modern hotel and it is still in brand new condition. See the hotel at www.BocaChicaBeach.net/hotels.html and receive a 5% discount if you reserve over the Internet, direct with the hotel (see http://www.costalunga.net/).
