Could Anthony Santos have had a chance at Romeo Santos' stardom had he tried?

I recently had a conversation with a friend about whether or not Anthony Santos could've had Romeo's stardom had he aimed for the same audience as Romeo Santos. I said he could've had the same level of fame if he went for the Aventura/Xtreme-type audience back in the early 2000s, but he would've been considered a sellout by some Dominicans by going for a more “pop-ish” kind of bachata. He said that Anthony would've never had the same level of popularity as Aventura or Xtreme outside or the Dominican Republic due to the fact that Anthony is more hardwired for traditional bachata.

I know Romeo is played from coast to coast and have even heard him in more Mexican areas like Dallas, Bakersfield and Chicago while Anthony is played more on the east coast where Dominicans and other Caribbean Latinos thrive. (New York, Perth Amboy, Boston, Worcester, Miami etc etc.)

What do you guys think?

Not a chance but I do enjoy his music. I got to see him perform live in Nagua back in 2012 and at the time I had no idea who he was. He put on a great show.

Guy's like Romeo are a rare breed.

Anthony Santos does make his concerts... entertaining, to say the least.

Romeo is like a modern JLG in a way, he has the international influence, the capacity to fill up massive stadiums like Yankee Stadium etc etc. (Though JLG's influence has gone to places Romeo could never dream of touching, like Australia and Israel)

Romeo is a "pretty boy" that plays sappy, overly romantic, bachata and all the women adore him. Personally, I don't like any of his music. Antony Santos is a much better bachata artist IMO, but I don't think he could have ever reached Romeo's "stardom".

Kind of hard to compare the two. Agree with Cavok about Romeo, he also plays to a different (and bigger) crowd type.
