Hi Lynda, I've done that and even other travel agents - still no good deals. Am I missing something? Please email me.

closer to the travelling date...u will get the best price. If u book well in advance before travelling u pay a higher price. So if u r looking to go in dec well they will be selling price will be probably at its lowest as dec is only a week away. As for jan u will see somewhat of a lower price but probably not as low as decembers.

If you are in Canada, the chance of a good last minute "deal" is virtually nil this year. We too, usually take the last minute route as we have been to Punta Cana five years in a row. However, since there have been so many seats available "last minute", the Canadian tour operators cut back their inventory by 30% this winter so they weren't having this problem!!

As a result there will be little available if you don't book now. Many resorts are already sold out for good travel dates. For example in early November, we wanted the Riu Bambu or Palace for the last week of January/first week of February and it was already sold out. Many others were on the verge. I suggest you book now as you are otherwise likely to be disappointed. Fortunately, the DR -- particularily Punta Cana -- is still a good "bang for your buck".

Looks like a good deal!!

Phyllis,

The cheapest airfare i've seen lately is $499 out of toronto (air transat). HOWEVER, as of today, on their webpage World of Vacations (worldofvacations.com) advertises Casa Marina in Sosua (which you are probably familiar with) all-inclusive at $749 for the week departing Dec 19th. If you're interested, it looks to be well worth checking into. Scroll down the left column and click on the red "Last minute deals starting at $129", Choose toronto as your departure city, and look for the Casa Marina deal. Good Luck.

Re: Looks like a good deal!!

Thanks Mark, but flying from Toronto isn't an option for me. Only out of Ottawa or Montreal.

Phyllis, give me the dates that you're thinking of leaving, I can check the Montreal newspapers on Saturday, that's when the travel agencies advertise. E-mail me with all the details and I'd be glad to check it out for you.

Phyllis, Was told by my travel agent when I booked my ticket for the Last week of December that the best deals flying out to the DR from any Cdn airport is in the last 2 weeks of January! You should be able to get pretty good deals at that time. Probably in the $300-400 range for round trip flights! If you require more details, I will get her to check around for you. Personally, my flight out of Toronto in Dec was pretty pricey and the flight was pretty hard to come by as well!
