Desperate for good food in Las Terrenas

Hello,

I have now spent a few days in Las Terrenas and am very happy about my choice of location and hotel (Alisei). However, I am equally disappointed about the food I've had here so far. I first tried the Hotel restaurant (Baraonda) which, despite providing solid service, was absolutely abysmal. I was not alone in my opinion. The woman on the table next to me sent her main course out twice - I don't think I've ever seen that before.

Have now also tried three of the restaurants in the fishermans village and a few more elsewhere in town but have not had a single good experience yet.

I have a great interest in food but am no snob and now just desperately looking for well cooked food, any style. Will try out Atlantis in playa bonita. Any other recommendations from someone who has been there recently?

Thankful for any advice!

I had spend in las terrenas about 8 nights in last 5 years. I have never had any good meal. but, last time i was there, in easter. I went to an italian restaurant. dont remember the name, but it is the last restaurant in the road to portillo. is a large terraza in the second floor. I had a very decent seafood pasta dish. the owner an italian, was there, and he cooked and serve the pasta to me. it was very good. the price also was good. 700 with 2 glass of wine.

Freddy is the new chef of the "Bahia Las Ballenas" restaurant, he studied cuisine with Fernand Point, and he is an excellent chef. That would be my top choice. Located in Playa Bonita.

Atlantis is also one of the finest, with G?rard Prystaz who was Fran?ois Mitterrand's chef at the Elys?e Pallas in the 80's.

Casa Grande, also in Playa Bonita... Very good !

For lunch, the finest might be "The Beach", at Playa Coson... It is a great one !

As of downtown, you definitly have to try "Mi Coraz?n" (mi corazon, restaurante, las terrenas, samana, republica dominicana)

-What else can I say ?

Dinner at Atlantis a few years ago was one of the best, if not the best, meals I have had in DR. Please post your review of it and other restaurants you visit this week. Perhaps I'll get back out that direction before too long.

I would recommend Mi Corazon located at the intersection of Main St. and the road that goes to Playa Bonita. It's different then the rest of the restaurants in LT.

The name of the Italian restaurant at the end of the road to El Portillo is
"FANTASTIKO" and the owner's name is Grazziano.

The problem with the restaurants in LT is that there is no consistency. One
day you can go and have a good meal, and go back another day and be totally disappointed.

I am surprised about the food at the Alisei Hotel. In my experience it was usually pretty good.

Thank you all! Very happy to see so many answers, will certainly give these places a try - hopefully the coastal road to playa bonita will open soon - it is now closed due to the rain.

You can eat magnificently at Kari Beach, every time. Speak with Antonio or Dari first.

-What are you refering to ? There is no coastal road to Playa Bonita. You have to drive the Coson road up to "Supermercado Le?n", and then the Bonita road.

(there used to be a path from Playa Marico to Playa Bonita, but it was crossing private properties, and it is now closed by owners...)

Restaurante Xamana in Samana

I live in Las Galeras and don't know the restaurants in Las Terrenas, but Restaurante Xamana at the end of the Malecon in Samana is excellent Italian food.

Yes, we found that out just today - apparently we were given incorrect information earlier. We went to Playa Bonita today, Atlantis was closed until December 2nd :(

We also visited Fantastiko. The owner was enthusiastic and seemed to care about food, which is always a good sign. We were served some rather nice bruschettas as appetizers and it was starting to feel promising. The seafood pasta came as slight disappointment on that though - pasta was well cooked but the scampi and fish sauce was rather dull, the same went for the melanzane pasta dish my company had. I think maybe we should have gone for dinner rather than a late lunch. Still, not bad and a pleasant experience all in all.

We were planning to visit Mi Corazon tonight but it is now pouring down so I think it will have to wait.

We've had good experiences at Paco Cabana, but again, not consistent. We really liked Alisei when we ate there too. My favorite is Eden at the Playa Colibri, Their chicken kabobs are really good.
