Are there direct flights to CR or Columbia from the DR? Does someone with a Dominican passport need a visa in advance? Sorry, not quite on topic, but the comments made me wonder about how difficult or expensive travel was.

Dominicans do not need a visa to travel to Colombia.

No direct flights that I know of. COPA has 2 flights a day from Santo Domingo and 1 per day from Santiago, they go via Panama. I think they also have a flight from Punta Cana as well.

SDQ to CTG (Cartagena) is around US$550-600 return.

the aeropostal flight required a overnight stay in Caracas for bogota flights. Not a good idea.
So stick to copa and you will get there in one day.

Copa goes to Panama, there is usually a short layover "in-transit" -maximum of 8 hours is their rule (i.e. a dominicano doesn't need a Panama visa, but may not exit the airport lounge area, which is full of shops and restaurants, etc) and then on to anywhere in Central or South America.

Really easy, beautiful new airport, and NO HASSLES. I have permanently QUIT Miami for my travels because I can get where I need to go through Panama, including Los Angeles.

DR to CR

There is a German airline CONDOR flying nonstop from Santo Domingo to Costa Rica. Price is somewhere around RD$11,500 roundtrip. Dominicans need a visa for Costa Rica. There might be other connections but that is the only one I know about.

I thought TACA flew Santo Domingo - San Jose

COPA connection from Santiago via Panama City to CR, Colombia, etc is also good, they are affiliated with Continental and pretty reliable from my experience.

Currently
Taca airlines and Condor airlines fly from Santo domingo to San jose,CR NONSTOP
and Avianca airlines flies from Punta Cana to Bogota NONSTOP
as far as visas goes a Dominican national may stay in colombia up to 60 days with no visa
and a Visa is usually requiered for Costa Rica (which is usually easy to obtain) but if the Dominican national has a Visa for USA,Canada Or a EU country which is valid for atleast 6 months they may enter Costa Rica VISA FREE for 90 days

happy travels!
