We are taking the Metro bus into Santiago. Is the Plaza International walking distance or a cab ride away? What should a cab cost? We are looking for outdoor and indoor furniture. Any other places we should check out and lunch place suggestions?
Thanks in advance!

Diriections to Plaza Internacional

You could walk it. But I would not want to cross the Estrella Sahala on foot. Take a taxi. I would estimate the fare between 50 and 100 pesos.
El Super Pola also had a nice selection of furniture. But I saw a lot of stuff I really liked in Low Price on the 30 de Marzo.

Check out Ochoa for furniture as well. They have patio furniture. Ochoa is ob Feb27, about a 20 minute walk from the metro station on the same side of the street.

Yep, you can walk it. But my wife suggests take a taxi. Get some Chinese food for me while you are there. It is very good and the price is right, up stairs. On the lower level there is a very nice furniture store in the very back, it is expensive but worth the walk through, it is also owned by Ochoa. Nice things but very expensive. Also, stop by the Radio Shack store, down stairs. If you are looking for patio furniture, try the place in Sosua simply named Patio Furniture.

Across the street from Plaza International is a great BBQ place called (I think) La Parillita. they serve the standard Dominican grilled dishes...quite inexpensive and very good.

The WALK to Plaza International is a very short distance, by the time the cab takes off from Metro, if you close your eyes too long, you would be at the Plaza.

Less than than 5 minutes, even waiting for the about 2 minute traffic light cycle.

If you wait for the traffic lights and keep an eye out for turning vehicles, Estrella Sadaha is no big deal.

Some people need to exercise a little more evidently and see the DR from more than inside a vehicle.

Taxi? What a waste of money......

You may want to check out Pricesmart also, for that you would need a Taxi.
Personally I have even walked there, but then I have walked through out most of the city of Santiago.

Check out Ochoa for furniture as well. They have patio furniture. Ochoa is ob Feb27, about a 20 minute walk from the metro station on the same side of the street.

This is only true if you consider making a RIGHT turn at Bartolome and walking up to Ochoa on your LEFT, just before Pola.

That store is a small copy of Ochoa, the main store is further down past the cemetary and past the bridge, you will see Ochoa on the left, but that is the "OLD" store, make a left thorugh the parking lot to get to the NEW store which is on NOT on 27th de Feb, it?s on Ave. Gral. Imbert.

We are good walkers. If we wanted to walk to Plaza International how would we do it? Does the new store have furniture? Anyone know where I can get a walking map of Santiago?

First off, a taxi will charge 100rd for the two minute ride. You would pay the same 100rd to go just about anywhere in town, why not walk.

It is as SantiagoDR said, a nothing walk. As for crossing the street, well if you cannot do that you should just stay in an AI.

It looked very expensive that Sosua store. All prices in dollars ex tax.
I saw they had those small plastic tables they use on the beach, the price in pesos would be about 1000!!

In Santiago there is an excellent system of caros publicos. From the metro station, hop in an A car, 12 pesos, and eventually that same vehicle will pass directly in front of Plaza international. 12 pesos. Pay double if you want more room in the car. And tell the cheuffer you are goiing to Pl. Int.

Let's cut the crappo:

From the Metro Station walk up to the big avenue that the bus turned from!! Go to your left. 1/2 a block to the BurgerKing. Wait for the light. Cross the street. Go just 500 yards. On your right is the Plaza Internacional. Cross with the light.

Also for furniture: Muebles Mendez on Metropolitana in Los Jardines. Can't miss it. In front of Optica Cibao.

Also PriceSmart, worth the taxi ride. RD$100 pesos. Call 809 581 3000 for EMI Taxi.
Or call Apolo Taxi and ask for JJ...

Also, in Burende, just past the non-operating toll plaza going towards La Vega, there is a very large showroom....on the North-bound side of the highway.

Modern Furniture

You guys are great! Thanks for all the help. I did go to the Sosua patio store. Very expensive, limited selection and stuff takes 4 weeks to get. I forgot to add on furniture we like modern. Would Ochoa, El Super Polo, Mueble Munoz and your other suggestions still be the places to go?

Try Adames in Santiago. They have 3 large showroom floors.
