Hi

I am a US citizen flying with Continental from Newark to Puerto Plata with a 1 way ticket. Do you think I will have any problems?

After DR, I am not certain if I will return to NYC or go to Panama City, thus do not want to buy the ticket yet.

Thanks in advance

Dylan

Unless you have proof of residency in the DR I don't think you will even be able to board the plane in NY without a R/T ticket..The agent who sold you the ticket should have told you this..Unless of course you bought it on-line.They don't tell you because the seller for instance Travelocity.com does not know you don't have residency..Call Continental and tell them you have a one way with no residency..I'm sure they will tell you you need to buy a R/T even if you don't use it. You will have one year to use it as credit after you cancle your return flight..This is the only way around it..

Don?t call anyone. Go to the airport early, check in and say nothing. If they flag you, just buy a one way return, full fare and cancel it later.

American is tough on this, but Continental usually does not check. In the DR no one cares.

My experience is its not just the airline carrier. I fly Boston to SDQ every 3 weeks on American and my return is the Boston to SDQ leg. They never check to see if I have a return flight. On the other hand, Orlando (I hate that airport!) always check and always makes me buy a ticket. Zak has the correct procedure when confronted.

Yes you need to prove you will be leaving the country. The return ticket can be to anywhere. Often people will buy a cheap return ticket to Miama in 6 months time. As I understand it the airline can be held responsible if they don?t make sure you had a return ticket. I know of several who had to buy a very expensive ticket at the last minute then had to fight to get it cancelled and money returned. Go online and buy a cheap spirit air ticket to miami.

Continental told me I may have problems boarding with a 1 way ticket to DR. Therefore, I bought a return ticket and will pay only $50 if I change the return date. I suppose I would have to return at some point anyway :)

Thanks
