Does Mail Get Delivered in DR

Many people I know do not have mailboxes in front of their house.
So how can letters be delivered... or sent from a DR address

For the last 17 years i'm get a account statement by mail every week from the US. Out of 50+ Letters i receive around 15-20 per year with a clear tendency to less every year.

where do you pick up the mail? it does not get delivered to your house does it?

There are post offices. You go to the nearest one and pick it up. In Jamao, the ayuntamiento serves as the post office.

In 30 years I have had about 4 letters but this century none..And there is not what anyone would call a post office in La Romana but a number of boxes for businesses in La Romana . I do receive some accounts and junk mail and this comes by a delivery bike and is thrown towards my front door.

Ken, you can also try the search option. I recall that there have been other threads about mail to the DR. I personally do not have much if anything delivered to the DR. If I do, then I have it held at the local post office, but I have not done that in quite a long time. When you get settled in the DR go to the local post office and inquire about having mail sent to you.

I'll address the second line of your query which is "how can (?)
1. Photo image of the mail sent to your e mail or WhatsApp account.
2. Via a mail forwarding account in Miami. Discussed here on DR1 since the beginning of time. Thousands! of posts.
3. Via a friend that travels back and forth frequently and loves you dearly for the favor.

I have never tried to have anything posted to me in the DR because I doubt it would arrive. I met a guy once who told me a funny story. He was living out of town and a van came to his house. The driver came to his door, said he was from the postal service and informed him there was something waiting for him at the post office!

When I had to get a replacement passport from the UK I had to send the relevant paperwork by courier (DHL, I think I used). They sent the passport back to me the same way.

When I lived in La Vega in the ninetees I had a PO Box at the post-office.
Every single letter arrived.
I wonder if that still exists.

I get all my Pension information, and income tax forms sent in the mail from Canada. I have received them all at the Dominican Post Office in Jarabacoa. I received my DNA kit from Ireland through the Dominican Post office. The postmistress sends me a message on WhatsApp.

I just recently got a "Apartado" (PO Box) at the post office in La Romana, have had several folks from abroad send me letters/post cards etc just to see how it functions, I'll let you all know how that works out. I wouldn't hold your breath just yet...

One of my moto guys works for the post. Once per week he goes to Nagua to get the mail. He then hand delivers it house to house across Cabrera and RSJ. There's not that much but it keeps him busy. I was amazed.
