How is a Dominican address normally written? Also, do people usually include their phone number on the front of the envelope?

Good luck getting anything delivered by the postal service. In 10 years I’ve only had one letter delivered, and it came about 9 months after it was posted. If it’s important I would suggest you get it delivered through a company like Fedex or UPS (work perfectly) or sent via Miami with someone like CPS.

We use the local post office. No delivery, you go pick it up. Usually gets here. when sending out we use their “registered” mail, costs more but always gets there. Slow service and I would never send
/ receive anything valuable .
als
I also understand EPS has an incoming for letters. Have never used it. I Try to avoid fedex due to high cost

Forget the EPS address for letters. EPS only works for packages. The letter address is as good as the postal address here.

Based on what I have seen, there are various ways. Our current address is pretty straight forward:

Calle abc nro #
[enter urbanizacion/barrio here)
postal code[City]

however, there are other formats as well and not all houses are referred as street numbers but for example "manzanas", so blocks (I assume)... Buildings might also be referenced with actual building names and street addresses with intersecting other streets (calle abc casi esquina ybc etc etc.)...

My parents have sent a few postcards in the past to my wife's sister's address (they have a logical and accurate street address) and they have always arrived via Imposdom within 2-3 months... Yes, that's useless when you are expecting something but it has in fact worked...

Best course of action is to simply ask for the address, someone should know it... I would not rely on what Edenorte or another electricity supplier has as your address, but only your landlord/neighbor/previous owner...

This is my point. 2 or 3 months to receive a letter = completely useless.

We have sent and received small packages and letters through the regular mail.
For anything important or of value, use a mail forwarder like Mailboxes Etc. or Vimenpaq. They are usually cheaper than FedEx, depending on what you are sending.
I just sent a package to my sister in law’s Miami address via Canada Post as a regular package. She received it about 4 days after it arrived in Miami. Usually it take about a week after it arrives there to get to her in the DR.

I disagree partially... Every single postcard did arrive, just with a very long delay... So they do work, but...

Yes, anything that you're actually expecting = courier

Back in the 1970s and into the 80s, when people wrote letters and mailed photographs and cards, I frequently sent my inlaws in Santo Domingo mail. With cash inside birthday cards too. They all got there pretty quickly. By the late 80s, envios popped up all over and we sent money that way, no more mail. Once Balaguer was gone, so was the regular mailman I think.

I have sent stuff from Europe to Santo Domingo many times using DHL and have been super impressed with their service. The staff in Santo Domingo are really efficient and if something gets stopped by Aduanas they are absolutely on the case 24/7 to get it moving. And services like CPS chug along and are fine if you buy stuff online or need things from the US.

Thanks everyone for help. I may send something to someone via Amazon which is like Fed x or UPS. Being from the US, I was given an address for DR and the person told me to include their phone number on the envelope. Usually that isn't done in the US also, I noticed they wrote their name under the address as oppose to on top like the the US. Just wondering.

I just got some documents from FedEx. Standard address format. You must include the recipient's phone number here.

If I understood correctly and you're sending something of some value, I would not use other than a courier service that gives you for example a Miami-based address and then this person picks up the delivery from their office in the DR... BMCargo is what we use, there are many more... The person you're sending to just needs to set up an account with them and that's all.

That is exactly what I have done. The setting up of the account is free. The only thing extra you pay for is shipment from Miami to the DR. It is really simple.

No phone number required for any of the local couriers like BM Cargo, CPS, etc.
Well.... Domex requires a phone number. They use it when a package arrives and in my case, call me to pay for the home delivery. Works great. But then again, I get a lot of packages.

I've used both EPS and BM Cargo. When you open an account, you have to provide your address, phone number, and email address - so they do have that on record if needed. I get email notifications from BM Cargo on the status of my packages.
