The national flower is the swietenia mahagoni (the flower of the mahogany tree).
Regarding the national tree, Ricardo Garc?a, deputy director of the National Botanical Gardens, explains that officially the DR does not have a national tree as there has not been a government decree designating any tree in particular.
Some say the national tree is the mahogany, but others point to the Royal Palm or the Roystonea hispaniolana Bailey. The national bird, the Cigua Palmera, makes her nest atop this tree that can reach 20 meters high.
