The woman who used to work for me when I had the office when we were working on small businesses in La Romana sent me this video. From a security camera at her house. 3:00 a.m. this morning.

She used to have a dog that would have taken care of this problem. She needs to get another one. Today.

The thief stole a beautiful orchid plant she had outside. And that is all. Three people sleeping inside the house at the time. Protected by rejilla on windows and doors. And other more serious means.

Feliz Semana Santa.

I am wondering what happens these days if you just shoot such ***** dead using your legal gun. Even if you plant a big knife in his hand before police comes, something tells me that these days it won't be as easy to resolve as 20 years ago. When it's the armed robbery attempt, it's easier, because the danger to your life is obvious. But in case of an unarmed thief trying to steal an orchid plant?

You will go straight to jail for six months while they investigate............And you better have a good lawyer...............

All I can offer her right now is something this. Or to find a dog like she had before.

You don't involve the police. Get rid of all evidence yourself.

I would bet he is armed. Any thief out at 3:00 in the morning in La Romana has a cuchillo at least.

A foreigner/legal resident will go to jail for sure. A citizen still has a chance of impedimento de salida, etc with good lawyers in case of self defense, but I am afraid that in case of killing a ***** stealing a plant, even if he was technically on your property but still outside the house like in a video above, this will not work because no danger to the house owners, they still were inside the house behind the metal bars.

Probably a big dog that can eat that ladron is the best solution :) But they poison dogs here, and training a dog that he would not eat anything except the food that you give to him, is a pain in the ass.

Thiis wasn't an innocent passerby who just liked the orchid. You can see in the video he has a mask. And gloves.

I never understand this cerco electrico thing, can't you just cut it with wire cutters using the gloves protecting you from high voltage?
Very likely. That is just a house in Buena Vista Norte that has that set up. My wife thinks it would be good idea. I thnk any experienced thief would know how to get by it. Someone here probably knows how it would or would not work.

I believe his family will tell a different story in Fiscalia after you shoot him. That he was a well known person in his barrio, working hard to bring food to his family, he had hopes to become a MLB star and he just wanted to borrow that ***** plant to decorate his little daughter's room for her birthday, and next day he wanted to bring it back. And he had a mask because he's still afraid of Covid.

Many of these will trigger an alarm/lights/siren when the loop is breached or shorted.
A ladron with wire cutters and protective gloves would have more equipment then the average electrician. He could get a job.

My guess. He was checking what was there. If it was easy entry he would have but it was a little difficult so he had to take something. But, my opinion, he was looking for vulnerabilities and seeing if there was anything worthy of his attention. If he saw anything of interest he most likely will return with what is needs to gain entry or with friends to help. I would be very vigilant and get that dog.
