First and foremost, tread carefully with this topic.

Here is an interesting question made a while ago in a radio station in Santo Domingo. It asks what type of men/women do Dominicans like to date? This is not scientific at all and is in a more "street" language with a lot of double meanings (for obvious reasons), but it does gives a certain insight into this topic. This type of radio station is listened mostly by young Dominicans of the low and lower middle class and largely by darker Dominicans.

A clarification is done at 7:30 + or - which should had been in the beginning that the terms white and black in the DR among most Dominicans doesn't coincides with how those terms are used in many other countries and it's simply based on Dominican reality vs ideologies. Essentially that everyone is aware that there are few whites as understood in other places (ie. USA) and the term white or blanco Dominicans applied it mostly to highly mixed people that are light skin.

This is slightly more interesting than personal experience, because obviously most of the people that you do attract are fine being with someone of your color, whether you are what they like or they simply don't care about those things. The consensus in the forum probably is that Dominicans in general like white/light skin, but given most of the members here if you go by personal experience then those not interested in your type and for whom this is not negociable they will not be attracted to you for obvious reasons.

This is not looking into other things like social class, which Dominicans are more adamant to not cross it when it comes to this.

One of the main reasons I enjoy living here tho it must be said,
(stupid) people in other countries do not understand the difference between light skinned/ dark skinned/ and the Haitian issue. They often conflate the two.

I think hair is a big separator - most men prefer natural hair, be it straight or kinky long but not braids or extensions or wigs.

I remember a fellow European I met who had moved here after many years living in South Africa. He said he was impressed how the different races as he put it hung out together and were friends quite naturally. Not sure what chico means with the wigs though.

It means most men prefer a real head of hair on a woman. Just a women don't want toupees on a man

I see a definite preference regarding color in my wife's family. There is no doubt about it.

Generalizations like the OP, where color is not looked at, are meaningless since every person looks at this topic differently.

Go to a bank in the DR and look at their own published bank propaganda and you can read while waiting and you will see what I mean. The pictures of the people who both work for the bank and the gala events they show in those magazines show a clear preference. When I first came to the DR I was surprised that there were no "black" people in those images.

It's no different in India, Thailand, Cambodia or several other "developing" countries.

Highly doubtful you will see a girl with curly hair or an afro in most banks.

My account manager has a gorgeous black rizo that she spends a fortune on hiding.

Trying to give some leeway. Once discussion veers from “partners” there’s a difference. If you prefer zero tolerance, we can comply.

It could be a difference between living on the north coast vs Santiago, though even in Puerto Plata the impression that I always had is that most Dominicans prefer Dominicans.

Abroad is also common to see Dominicans choosing Dominicans despite it’s easier to meet people from other cultures. Whenever a Dominican partners with a non-Dominican, most appear to choose Puerto Ricans above all else. I’ve seen some with an Italian-American, Peruvian, Colombian, African American and white Americans, but among those that choose non-Dominicans Puerto Ricans outnumber the rest by a long shot.

Not to further extend this tangent as it has crossed the line of the topic, but if you ever find an ad where the cars are not all shiny and new, everything doesn’t look perfect, etc; let me know.

There are DR ads, especially for real estate projects, where all the cars are luxury types. Not even in Dubai is like that! lol
