Hi, Im trying to arrange for my boyfriend who is Dominican to come and visit me in Montreal for a couple of weeks in the next two months. Does anyone have any experience with the procedures i would need to folow in order to obtain a Canadian Visa for him, and any problems I may experience.

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Vanessa

Have a look below under "RE: GIFTS FOR HOTEL STAFF/TELL US HOW?VISA?" Message posted by Lyse, Wednesday, 17 November 1999, at 1:40p.m. Note that it's your Dominican friend who must apply to obtain the Canadian Visa. You will join a letter of invitation to his request.

Tell him to stay there in the DR. It's getting cold here in Canada. Better yet, you go and visit him there. Believe me, it's much easier that way.

You should check the "old messages" as this topic has been discussed in great detail many times, and believe me it's extremely difficult to get a Dominican friend into Canada to visit.

Thanks for the input. I was just there, and am going back in a few months...but i would really like him to come here and "experience" the cold!

You should call immigration Canada. He may be able to come here as a tourist for a short time. I think it may be six months.

Hi Vanessa,

Best of luck to you, but don't hold your breath.

Unless your boyfriend is from a wealthy family, owns property, has a good job and a sizable bank account he is not likely obtain a visitor visa to Canada. Canadian Immigration will only approve a visitor visa where they are 100% certain the visitor will be returning to the Dominican. They are especially careful and suspicious in the case of boyfriend/girlfriend. They may suspect that once he's here, you plan marry and then request processing of permanent resident status from within Canada based on humanitarian grounds.
