Interesting conversation on the origins of the modern Dominican tourism industry and where it’s going by Jaqueline Mora, Andrés Marranzini and Jonathan B.
It’s interesting what Jaqueline (she has been involved in tourism at the government level) says about tourism on the north coast (16:00).

“In recent years 2 things have happened (to north coast tourism); 1) an appearance of public infrastructure starting with Sosúa, however there is the issue of arrabalization; 2) the north coast has seen for a long time the surgence of a particular tourism. A tourism that we (from the government) didn’t want. A low quality tourism with a lot of prostitution.
In recent years the government has intervened in those 2 types; 1) start to close businesses that support the prostitution tourism with the intention to reduce this bad tourism; 2) try to eliminate the arrabalization of Sosúa beach.”
