Yesterday, Dominican Brian DePeña was crowned the winner in the mayoral elections of Lawrence, Massachusetts.
The Dominican was chosen in the primaries of September 22 against 4 other candidates, among which was Kendrys Vasquez.
In proclaiming himself the winner, De Peña thanked his wife, family and voters for the achievement. Then he went out in a caravan for a tour of the Lawrence City Hall.

Life
Born and raised in the Dominican Republic, Brian DePeña immigrated to Lawrence in 1989. In the city he is a recognized "businessman" as he owns a hardware store, "Brian's Hardware", and other businesses such as "Tenares Tire Services" and “De Peña Auto Services”.
De Peña has been a member and president of organizations such as Dominican Parade, Golden Circle Awards, Hispanic Chamber of Merchants, Hispanic Week, and co-founder of the Latin American Merchants Association.

Additionally, he was elected as a city councilor in 2015 and served two terms in that position.

Lawrence has a long history of electing Dominicans as mayor................as Hispanics comprise a majority of its citizens and Dominicans making up 40% of the total population of the city.

It is also the poorest city in Massachusetts............and has been for decades.
