Great Idea!

This is a great idea and just last week there was a list of Dominican writers in el Listin Diario. I will see if I can find it and attach the link. In the meantime here are the few that I can offer. You may want to distinguish those from the island from Dominican-American authors simply because I find the writing style drastically different.


Pedro Antonio Valdez- novela
Jose Luis Gonzalez-novela
Julia Alvarez- novela, short stories
Junot Diaz- novela, short stories
Frank Moya Pons- essay, historical documentary
Victor Gomes Berges- history, politics (I am actually reading one of his books right now and almost forgot to add this writer to the list)
Jorge Cela- history, politics

Dominican Literature en la Gran Manzana

Mainegirl,

Here is the link I mentioned in my first post. I thought it was interesting the fact that you wanted to begin a new list of writers. Dominican literature is finally getting recognition via a book called "Foro de Literatura y Cultura Dominicana en Nueva York".

The book is a joint effort by twenty-six Dominican writers in NY who have brought Dominican literature outside of the island to the forefront. Quite interesting and stepping stone for cultural representation via literature for quisqueyanos.
