I would like to take my Dominican step daughter on a Cruise (Carnival or Disney) out of Miami or Ft Lauderdale. (Her idea not mine, cruises sound boring to me)
But the visa process seems to be backlogged
I went to the new consulate in Puerto Plata today and was told all visa apps are out of SD, but application can be started online until an interview date is scheduled.

Trouble is they are backlogged until 2024 and still working on apps from March of 2020.
Unless I misunderstood them that makes it close to impossible to plan a quick one week cruise vacation ?

Anyone know if quick visas can be obtained for cruises ?

Visas still required for Dominicans Sky
I believe she can go if she wants to stay on the ship and not enter other Countries that a Visa is needed. They used to let Dominicans go with no Visa but some stayed in another Country so they stopped that.

I think that's right.

I have two female friends who have passports but no Visa and are working as crew on a MSC cruise ship. They have been to the stateside ports many times but can only look at paradise from afar.

Crew have different types of visas though. But I do agree it's usually the case that if you just want to stay on the ship for ports where you can't disembark this is allowed. We did a cruise recently and didn't disembark in a few ports due to Covid regs

I asked her and she told me she has a C1 D Visa. They're in Cozumel now, back to Orlando, then off to the Bahamas.

I know a girl who worked on a Disney Cruise but she had a crew visa.

You'd need an emergency appointment, but as far as I know, you'd need to have an urgent or serious motive to travel in order to get one. They won't give you one for a leisure activity.
Try to talk her into some other destination.

True.
One of my closest friends works as a crew, too, and while she can't get off the ship while in the mainland, she was allowed to walk around el Viejo San Juan, PR, recently with a bunch of her co-workers. When she was in San Diego and Miami, she had to remain on the ship.

It is absolutely absurd that the US has got this backlog in processing visas. The UK is offering a guaranteed 6 day turnaround for visitor visas. I have a friend who just applied in Santo Domingo.

Apparently there is about an 11 week wait in getting an American passport for Americans, however one of our teachers is married to an American and she went for her interview in Santo Domingo and even though they told her 15 working days to have her immigrant visa ready they emailed her and told her it was ready for pick up in Santiago on Wednesday, so two days.

He can always try. The worst he will receive is a no.
