Many expats contributed towars this, especially buying things on Amazom and having that delivered to the DR. An article in the Listín Diario focuses on how it went for that sector in 2023.

- Dominican couriers moved 31.8 million packages, +50.4 million kilograms up to December 22, 2023.
- Total value is north of US$3.4 billion. Yep, you read that right.
- Most packages arrived from the USA.
- Packages that arrived from Miami amounted to US$1.1 billion up to December 22, 2023.
- Other USA places that sent packages to the DR includes Memphis, Estherville, Newark, New York City (via JFK) and Los Angeles.
- After the USA, packages arrived from Spain (via Madrid), Panama, France (París), Colombia (Bogota), Venezuela (Caracas) and Germany (Frankfurt).

No mention of from what company comes the most packages, but I would not be surprised if Amazon is up there. With the values already involved in this and it will only continue to grow, why exactly Amazon doesn't have a warehouse in the DR and ships directly? I bet, after Puerto Rico, the DR is where Amazon packages go to the most in the Caribbean.

Amazon and Ebay are responsible for most of this with the shipping companies in Doral, Florida....And 98% or shipments are under the $200 limit for no duty................

There are so many things it is cheaper to get that way, or simply unobtainable here, this is no surprise at all.

I was disappointed to find that nobody was shipping blue barrels any more.

I'm picking up items that I ordered from eBay or Amazon at BM Cargo on average at least twice a month. It's unbelievable just how many items are unavailable, hard to find, and/or cost more here. Most of these items are things Dominicans would want, also, if they knew they existed.

I receive packages almost daily.

Not only things I can't get here, but things I can buy here but why go through all of the hassle and headaches of getting in my vehicle and burning gas and my time?

I just had some Ovaltine chocolate malted milk for dessert after my cheddar cheese home fries. lol

Do you still need a forwarder service to get it here or does amazon provide the courierservice to the door?

Wasn’t that a custom’s decision?

I'm no American but fully agree with JD Jones... I needed a new (I forgot the name) part that regulates the voltage going to your AC blower motor when the AC controls are manual... Living in POP, I went to Torfilco, which I consider one of the best ones there... They needed to order the part and cost was 2k something in DOP... They offered no warranty (obviously, as electrical part and I was going to do the installation myself)... The part broke in a month... Ordered the exact same part from Ebay from a very reputable seller in the US for half the cost (shipping included)....Part installed and after one year going strong... Why did I first go to Torfilco? Because we need to go to the capital in 3 days and it would have been awful trip without AC... Lesson learned, be careful when purchasing electrical parts for car in the DR... Or order online better

Generally speaking, for many things, we would need to go to at least Santiago from POP and there would not be any guarantee of quality nor availability with things bough locally. I of course cannot easily send anything back bought from Ebay either, but I still consider the risk lower... So there is the gas/time going to Santiago, then the kids will want to eat something there etc... Even with shipping etc, much cheaper, unfortunately...

EBAY was my go-to for years, until I discovered that just about anything you can find on EBAY, you can find on Amazon as well.

I have over 500K miles on my AA account, and almost all of them came from using my Advantage CC card on Amazon.

And all delivered to my door by my courier.

Who told you that? We’re still shipping them. Just sent one to Lindsey Kaufman Strength For The Journey. Another one going out soon.

Three different shippers in the Miami area said they had NO blue barrels. My step daughter called around and got the negative responses on that.

Where did you ship from and what company was it?

You wanted them to pack one for you? That’s different from no one shipping them.

We buy our own, pack them, and they come pick them up. We ship from New Jersey, Camden Cargo Express. The barrels come in blue, black and white, here’s the last one we shipped.

I buy most directly from Aliexpress, which looks to be the source of many Amazon products but without the double price. Collect these and other needed or cheaper products in the EU in the mudanza box and send it here. No barrels available, I think the shipper wants to use all available container volume and that is easier with square boxes.
Just opened up the last one yesterday, obviously this one was checked and despite my “dios ve todo” paper on top in the box some stuff was missing. Guess someone got new shoes or something at Christmas lol. I usually pack cheap stuff on top or bottom for that reason, have not seen yet they check all of the contents.

Are you guys doing baseball stuff again this year?

Doubtful this year, not sure when/if we’re even coming down because of my slow recovery. It’s a lot of hard work to organize and distribute and we’re not getting any younger. I do remember your offer to help, and will let you know if/when we do.

Great way to accumulate miles isn't it... Almost all my miles come from things like this.

No , since we didn't have a blue barrel at all, we needed one for shipping.

Indeed. I suppose if they had none and we had none, then none were going to be shipped, but there was no ban on them if that was the only reason. I would not trust a non family member to pack a box or barrel for shipment to the DR. That won't be happen'.

Perhaps there is a source of them in south Florida that could be investigated.

How much did they charge just for shipping?

For one barrel it was $115. Sometimes they have specials for $100 each if you ship several.

There are companies (or there were) who sell you the drum, then you ship your Amazon/Ebay orders to them and they pack it all and ship when full. Like you, I’d never do that.

Barrels are available everywhere. About $35. Flea markets, Facebook marketplace, even larger supermarkets. They’re used by everyone shipping to Africa, Caribbean, South America, etc. Marketplace is a good source for used ones, usually cheap (from free to $15-20). The white one we used above came from a local car wash, it had liquid soap in it originally, they give them away.
