Out of curious, suppose I decide to run for office but seems the requirement won't qualify me because I am not Dominican but what 'origin' means in other way as stated below:

According to the Constitution of the Dominican Republic of 1966, in its modification of the year 2015 by the Congress, the President:

  • Must be Dominican by birth or origin.
  • Have the age of 30 years old or more.
  • Be in full exercise of their civil and political rights.
  • Not be active in military and police service for at least three years before the election.

I have the temporary residency because of new property we purchased and my marriage through my dominican wife. I suppose have to wait until I convert into permanent residency before I can do anything legally in the country?

You can be involved in any politics at all until your a citizen. Even getting involved in political protests could get your residency revoked.

Origin is simply at least one of your parents is Dominican. That covers Dominicans born in other countries.

All Dominicans (except naturalized ones - foreigners that apply for Dominican citizenship/inherit DC by marriage/presidentially granted) are able to run for the presidency. Of course, 99.9% of Dominican from everywhere will not do that, but in theory…

The OP will never be allowed to run for DR presidency.

I know I can't run but I was just curious. However, I was informed I can run for office esp Presidency position.

But thanks anyway.

I think another requirement is that a Dominican has to have resided in the DR for 10 years. That's what prevented Ramfis Trujillo from running.
Ramfis has other issues stemming from his Trujillo maiden name. Last time he had everything in order they intentionally stalled his submitting all the papers to the JCE to run for the presidency, because of them went past the deadline and then they claimned he was disqualified due to exceeding the deadline. He went past the deadline precisely because they kept his papers to be fixed until after the deadline which was something that could had been done in 2 days tops.

There is a small group of people that are putting hurdles simply because he is a Trujillo. Personally, I see that as a dumb move, because if he is meant to rule, eventually he will. There is no stopping that. It’s like Trump. All the tricks in the book were applied to disfavor him during the campaign and in the end he still won. Yikes!

It’s better that if someone will rise to the top no matter what, that they do it with no memories of unfairness on their way to get there. People have long memories when it comes who did them wrong, but usually if they remain under those that did them wrong there is not much retaliation. Keywords are “under those that did them wrong.” A president is basically above just about everybody and more so in a country like the DR where the president has much more power. Something as simple as renewing a cédula could become problematic if it’s an order from the president to treat such-and-such in a different way. Renewing a passport, leaving/entering the country, paying taxes, whatever. Heck, Hipólito once ordered 2 Dominican radio hosts to be arrested. Guess what happened?

I've heard Ramfis speak a couple times. Seems very intelligent and would probably make a good president. I don't know how he'll overcome the 10 year residency requirement though(?).

He’s been living in the DR for well, over that amount of years.

He was also born and grew up in the USA; the same place many that criticize him end up living and want their children to have many of the values inculcated in Americans which for the mist part is only done with years attending American schools.

AFAIK, Ramfis is, and has been, living in Florida(?).

I don't think so unless he recently moved there(?). I know he owns a house here that he uses when he comes to visit though. Remember, one of the reasons stated by JCE that he wasn't qualified for President was that he hadn't lived here for 10 years. Here it is right from the horse's mouth. Also, he didn't renounce his US citizenship:

But he has. It’s his maiden name that is causing the delay.

What is the source on that? He still doesn't meet the 10 year residency requirement.
Knowing where he lives most of the year. It’s his maiden name, it doesn’t have to do with anything else. He has already lost thousands of dollars of his own money to seethe DR government shut him down again.

If he revoked his US citizenship as you say, he couldn't live in the US - which he does. If he were living here in the DR, that would be big news and we all would have heard about it - which we haven't.
