Driving Times - Las Galeras - Cabarete - Bonao - Santo Domingo

Hi -
We are finalizing our itinerary to DR and was hoping we could get some advice on driving times:

1. Santo Domingo - Las Galeras - i heard with the new highway this should b e prety quick - 2.5 hours?

2. Las Galeras - Cabarete - we have friends staying in Cabarete and wanted to stop over for a day - 3 hours?

3. Cabarete - Bonao - we have family in Bonao - any idea how long this drive would be?

4. Bonao - Santo Domingo - return to the airport - I think this would be like 1 - 1.5 hours?

We are thinking about potentially going from Cabarete - Bonao - Airport in SD all in one day, but not sure this is possible, especially since our flights is at 7:55 PM.

The new highway is smooth sailing and very scenic. You will need pesos for the three tolls, RD$43, RD$139, and RD$165. About two thirds of the way there is the one and only rest stop.

......4. Bonao - Santo Domingo - return to the airport - I think this would be like 1 - 1.5 hours?

This drive is more like 1.5-2 hours because of current construction on kennedy just past avenida luperon. If you are traveling during rush hour you would probably be better off taking luperon to 30 de mayo, malecon, avenida espana, and finally las americas.

If you just want to visit Bonao for a few hours this can easily be done, plus it gives you a break in the long drive to the airport.

thanks for all the info bigbird! As it turns out we may not go to Bonao, and we decided that we might not do Cabarete at all since it's so out of the way. Might just spend all our time in Las Galeras - which wouldn't be so bad
