Hi Everyone,

I need some help.....I have been looking for flights for my hubby as we are hoping he will be getting his visa soon, I needed to know for the people who's spouse have arrived recently did the flight get booked here in Canada and then the e-tickets e-mailed to your spouse in the DR for them to print off? My hubby is worried that they won't accept e-tickets at the Punta Cana airport and I told him to relax I have been going to see him with e-tickets since we met and never had any problems, but he is concerned they will give him a hard time because he is Dominican. Any imput is greatly appreciated.

Thanks!!!

Princess Pineda,
I have an eticket for my flight in July. I've always used e-tickets and it shouldnt be a problem. I booked here, and sent the e-ticket via email.
However, will be flying down with my hubby anway so will have my own hard copy of the eticket....in any case, its an eticket.
He's just getting worried/nervous...they may give him a hard time because he's dominican in general because they will want to ensure his visa isnt false.
However, as long as the name on the eticket matches his passport exactly he shouldnt have a problem

also fyi, dont fly with sunwing. they dont allow dominicans on their flights - no rule since they were being fined for transporting ppl with falsified visa's.

Also keep in mind at this time of year your only options are Air Canada or Air transat. These two airlines are the ones that take first time flyers with a PR visa to Canada.

Sandra - Don't worry!! I booked the flight for my husband here in Canada and all he had was the Confirmation Number and he had no problems.

He flew out of Punta Cana too on a direct flight to Toronto.

Make sure he is there with plenty of time to spare as they may need a little more time to process/make copies of visa/passport etc. My husband said he had no problems at all and he worried for nothing!

I wouldn't worry about the eticket - they just use it to look up the reservation in the computer - as mentioned as long as the name matches it's not going to be a problem.

I was more worried about my husband getting scammed at the airport for extra luggage and over weight luggage and where he was going to put his cash and going through the security check than the ticket :)

I sent him an email explaining the extra luggage allowance if you have a PR Visa and told him to pay attention to his wallet and things when going through the screening. I didn't want his money to go missing if he was distracted by this new experience.

WestJet flys on Saturdays from Punta Cana to Toronto.

Thanks ladies! I told my hubby that he had nothing to worry about, but it will be good to reassure him with all of your advice!

I too have been looking for flights for next week or the following. I truly hope we have visa in hand prior to the medical expiry which is July 10th I have been checking the Air Canada flights....they seem to be the most reasonable. Have you had any luck?

Hi Ellie, I actually found a flight on the Air Canada website last night for July 4th and July 11th for $235.00 with tax so I really hope we get the call for the visa before the prices go up. Another question earlier it was mentioned to make sure the name on the passport matches the one on the ticket, so did everyone book the flight with both last names, ie my hubby's name is Nolberto Eliezel Pineda Mejia, but he just goes by Nolberto Pineda. Sorry I just don't want any problems when the time comes! Also what is the weight allowance for first time for a PR visa? Thanks everyone

his ticket should have both last names on it...too match his passport & visa.

when we booked our tickets we couldnt book online because there wasnt enough space to fit everything and had to call in to do it.

you must be getting so excited!!

wouldnt life be so much easier if this was the most difficult part!!!

...

Just a quick note about the names... My name is really long and I booked a flight with Air Canada (On the phone this time) and the lady couldn't fit my whole name, so she told me the most important was that all last names present on the passport match the ones on the ticket. And they aren't allowed spaces between, so it does end up looking pretty weird.

Thanks ladies!

Sangria yes I am getting excited, but feel like I am going crazy waiting for that call to pick up the passport. Just when you think it's almost done they keep you waiting and waiting. Anyways the end is in sight and that is all that matters!

i always use e-ticketing and i get thru the lines within a minute. What is also nice is that you can choose your seat withing 24 hours.

I usualy fly on Continental. I have have NEVER had a problem with e-tickets. US EWR to SDQ

The concern here is that the e-ticket is for a Dominican flying out for the first time with a PR visa to Canada.

We know everyone else does not have a problem. I fixed the title so there's no confusion.

FYI - WestJet flies every Saturday throughout the summer from Punta Cana to Toronto. They will change to 3 times a week in the fall and throughout the winter (Wednesdays, Fridays & Saturdays).

They will also resume seasonal service from La Romana and Puerto Plata in the fall.

My wife's first flight was an e-ticket, there is no problem. Paper tickets would be $200-500 more. The airlines do not want to issue paper tickets anymore.
