Now that's truly funny. CC is concerned about something being offensive. Good one. :) :)

Ebonics

If you have to ask if this is offensive, that in itself is offensive. I do wish an African -American or an African-Canadian would respond to this question, because I am neither.

But you asked for feedback.

Not funny!!!!!

I guess one has to be familar with Ebonics to find the humour and since I'm not, it doesn't make any sense to me.

Paddy, looks like your'e losing your edge; are you being censored?

paddy usually has great jokes...keep it up

There is difference between a joke and an outright insult. This was an insult. Calling someone ignorant or stupid is only funny to the perpetrators and a small fringe segment of the population.

Of course the joke was offensive, it was blatantly racist. But there seem to be a ton of closet racists on this board so what is the point of complaining? I'll bet my head that no sane white person will go up to a random black person on the street and tell this joke to his face. Or better yet, start telling this joke around the water cooler at your corporate job and see how quickly you get canned. But like I said before, what's complaining going to do? I was actually more interested in watching other people comment on how funny the joke was so I could see how they really felt.

Yes it's offensive...but accurate

It's hilarious. Lighten the hell up. And yes, I would and have made comments about ebonics to blacks. 100% laughed because they know it's rediculous. Recognizing ebonics as a "language" instead of the ignorant street slang that it is will only hurt African American kids and their potential for a bright future.

Example:

A buddy of mine in the Army once asked me "are we 'spodabee' cleaning our weapons?"

I said "spodabee"? Is that like a "bumble bee"?

He laughed and said I was clearly not "down". Which I took as a compliment.

It is descriminatory to settle for mediocrity and lower standards. White kids won't suffer, black kids will. People all over the world are busting their asses to learn English. You can bet they are not learning ebonics. Keep the "hip hop" argument to yourself. That shiznat won't nevah get yo A$$ laid and paid. Ya feel me, Playa?

Scizandall, You are getting confused. This is not a discussion about the merits/de-merits of "ebonics". This is a discussion about jokes ... those that are funny and those that are just insults.

This joke is an insult. The fact that some of the negative responses to the OP (including mine) ensconsed a hair across your arse is a totally different matter.

The fact that you like this joke probably means you and I are unlikely to run across each other at the local mart.

Sorry. I was not trying to hijack the thread. And don't be so quick to judge. My friends (now and before) are a very diverse group. Maybe the joke is offensive to some, but it is also unfortunately representative of a large sector of the U.S. population. But hey...live and let live.

All I can say is Scandall, you are one of the few who 'get it'. Dont try to explain it to those who dont for they never will. And, you will never be able to explain it better than you just did.

The words used in this joke are out of context, thus people familiar with the dialect find this post incoherent and ridiculous.

It's obvious the OP only fraternizes with Blacks through the tele or a magazine.

Larry,
Are you saying that you, a white guy, are better equipped to tell blacks what is offensive to blacks?

Note that this question is different from whether or not it should be offensive.
