Can anyone tell me why the white heads are along this area? We recently took the Gri Gri Lagoon boat tour and we saw the white heads in two different places and also two white statues. One was of a man climbing the rocks, can't remember the other. Our guide tried to explain why they were there but I am still confused. Just curious if anyone knows more about them?

There are several stories. One is that a local artist put them there to depict Taino heritage. Whatever the real story, they're deteriorating.

Another story I heard is that the figures sculptures in ghostly white materials are depicting the souls of the dead Tainos climbing out along the shoreline from the depths of the Ocean where their bodies were thrown. Gruesome but interesting.

And yes, they sure are deteriorating which is too bad as they make an interesting sight from the boats as you see them along the shoreline or climbing out on the island or swim over to them from Caleton beach itself.

The artist is Persio Checo, and he explain to me that its represents our ancestors and heritage.

In what way does it represent Dominican hertitage and the ancestors (European, Taino, African ancestry?)?
Can you give us some more detailed information about his art please.
Maybe a write up from him or maybe telling him to visit this thread.
As I too am curious

Thanks

Thanks for the link Tamborista.
I would love hearing from the artist. Maybe he will give a full explanation on this thread in the near future. I was there a few weeks ago but the tour guides explanation was not clear about the real significance was.
