Celso Marranzini, the head of the Unified Council of Electricity Enterprises (CUED) has been known to say things that are obvious but that many consider “not something you want to say out loud.”

For example, several years ago, when Marranzini was the head of the now-defunct Dominican Corporation of State-owned Electricity Enterprises (CDEEE), he visited several barrios in Santo Domingo with reporters and noted how nearly every humble abode in the barrio had a satellite dish for television and Internet on the roof. These barrios did not have electricity meters, and instread each house was charged a small, fixed rate. He asked the reporters in a facetious manner: “And these people do not pay for electricity?” A reference to the fact that they could afford television and satellite internet service but could not afford to pay for the electricity.

Just last weekend...

While energy waste is a problem throughout this country, Mr. Marranzini is omitting a few
very important details. Like back in (i think) 2021 when Team Luis decided to privatize
the CDEEE (The Dominican Corporation of State Electric Companies) and his cronies repeatedly
stood up in front of the National Media Outlets and swore to Dominicans this decision WOULD NOT
impact the cost of electricity for consumers. They lied. Businesses operate for profits, not people 99% of the
time and these original news articles published around the same time have all but completely
vanished from the internet.

Not understanding your comment. I thought the EDEs were still govt entities, fucked up as usual. Is that not the case?

I can assure you the Edenorte still exists in all its glory. And Edenorte is certainly an EDE.

Luis promised to rid the country of the plague of EDEs but still has not done so.

Indeed they do. My bill is due on the 1st.

Is it my imagination or does anyone else remember all of the back and forth in press back in 2021 about the privitization of the CDEEE and the fear of rate increases???

Tell ya what, I am one of the most consistent persons you'll run into. I do pretty much the same thing every day.

I am constantly amused how my consumptions yo-yo's up and down when I do nothing different. Last month when we had the almost 24 hour blackout and I used the generator (at last!) my consumption for that day was the same as any other day.

Also, my consumption has slowly but surely slowly creeping up, even though I do things like wash less, don't use lights, turn off the ceiling fan, etc. etc.

It wouldn't be funny if my bill wasn't so low already.
