The Presidency has declared public use for the lands where the abandoned Hotel Santo Domingo stands, an iconic structure in the capital that has been closed since 2013. The structure between the Malecon and Av. Independencia avenues is reportedly set for demolition in the coming weeks due to its advanced state of deterioration.
The measure was formalized through Decree 214-24, which stipulates that the area will be allocated for the construction of the new Santo Domingo Convention Center — a project deemed critical for boosting business tourism and events in the capital city.
