Fake/toy gun that sounds like a real gun...
Then some landrone with a real gun may feel compelled to shoot at you...
You do not bring a firearm to bear unless you intend to kill something. You certainly do not try to intimidate with one (or worse a fake one) because you have just handed the other person a self defense excuse to offer up as to why you now have holes in your body.
Get a dog and keep a sharp machete at hand. If you need more than that you should have been running the other way 30 seconds earlier
Scoop up some dog crap, mix with pieces of cloth and bones distribute around front of your property Find a friendly neighbor with large dog and volunteer to walk, be seen. And truthfully, like others have said, DO NOT "arm" yourself with a non functioning firearm, that's invitation for disaster
Mmmh an efficient guard dog will not bark at an imminent threat, a low growl deep in the throat, yes. I guess it depends on the character of the dog, but in my experience, dogs protecting a propety ( real dogs that is, not rat size dogs or company dogs ) will bark at other dogs/animals, they will also bark if they are locked up/tied up...... but they will not bark if they think someone is climbing over the wall.....why ruin the potential fun !!
As for a fake gun..... why not ? I have never actually shot anyone with my real guns...... in fact i probably shoot them only twice a year in my conuco, mainly to make sure they go bang when I pull the trigger ( a gun is a tool for me, not an object of adoration ), and has the side effect of letting the-few-people around that we have guns.
One of my BIL actually ran off a couple of guys with a fake shotgun we left him ( he was keeping an eye on the house from next door ) and they fell over each other trying to get away...... that said i prefer not to have to pull the fake gun stunt.
Personally I would listen to the advice you have been given. But if you really really want a fake gun get a starters pistol. They fire 22 calibre blanks that sound real. If you can't get one of those a Hilti or Ramset is similar but you have to hit it with a hammer.
