Feb. 27 - Independence Day In DR???

We arrive in Santo Domingo on Feb 27/99 from Toronto. That is a holiday, what can we expect. Is eveything shut down for the weekend.

What does that day mean to the people of DR?

Anything special we should look for, parade, etc.???

Entertainment and leisure facilities are open. It's a day to fiesta. It's the Dominican 4th of July. It falls on a Saturday. Carnival parade is scheduled for Sunday, 28 February. I have to confirm this, but I believe the military parade takes place along the Malecon on Saturday, 27 February.

Hi, does anyone have the times for both of those parades and any other Santo Domingo events scheduled that weekend? Thanks in advance.
