Good News for Cabarete, RD
Last week-end, president Hipolito Mej?a gave Cabarete's investors the authorization to build a waste water processing plant and to install the necessary sewer system, adding that the government would provide for 50% of the total cost of the job.
The leader met in the Palacio with representatives of the turistic industry from Luper?n, Puerto Plata, Sos?a and Cabarete, to listen to the problems that affect them, but he only made the short term commitment to help Cabarete.
He refused a request from Puerto Plata representatives to build a convention center, claiming that in this area financing should come from the private sector.
Concerning Sos?a, president Mej?a told the representatives that he was waiting for financing from the World Bank (Banco Mundial?) to build accomodations for the families living in the El Cach?n area. However, he didn't talk about the issue of waste water dumped in the ocean.
Pluty Cordova, president of the Development Asociation, he told me, also asked for the delimitation of the El Choco national park. Investors in the surrounding area are in constant anxiety because the Environment Department keeps changing the limits, resulting that one day they are inside the limits and the other day they are outside the limits of the national park.
Mej?a was also receptive to the idea that the government would be responsible for building a detour so vehicles going from Sos?a to R?o San Juan would not go through Cabarete.
