Here's a few of the main partying events:

New Year's Bash -- 31 Dec/1 January. Santo Domingo. Carnival -- Sundays in February in major Dominican cities. Especially La Vega. Presidente Beer Latin Music Festival. June of every year. Big Latin stars perform. Merengue Festival. Street dancing with an emphasis on merengue. July, Santo Domingo. Christmas Partying -- from the third week of December, street dancing and partying. The city of Santo Domingo becomes a big party.

Hello, I'm in search of Major Festivals/Holidays both religious and secular in the Dominican Republic. If anyone has any information as to where i can get these types of details, i would greatly appreciate it. Thanx

There is an October merengue festival in Puerto Plata (the dates change every year), and not to be missed is the sand castle building contest in Cabarete, the third Sunday in February. Also, usually in June there is some sort of windsurfing competition in Cabarete.

Hi DR One,

Is this the same timeframe for the same activities in Puerto Plata? Thanks!

There is a really good book put out by Moon Travel Handbooks called "Dominican Republic Handbook" by Gaylord Dold. The book covers everything including festivals and holidays. It is worth the read!

This book/author has plagiarized content from the Living in Santo Domingo book. We would ask DR1 readers to boycott it.
