Dominican Paris Olympic gold medal winner Marileidy Paulino was present for the opening of the FIFA U17 Womens World Cup in Santiago’s FC Stadium. Paulino was appointed official ambassador for the event. Manny Cruz sung his “En La Isla” for the crowds. “En La Isla” is the theme song for the global event.
Vice President Raquel Peña and the Mayor of Santiago Ulises Rodriguez were present for the opening game.
The Dominican team lost their first game against Ecuador 2-0. Ecuador’s Jaslym Valverde Tenorio scored the two goals.
In the opening game in Santo Domingo at the Felix Sanchez Olympic Stadium, Spain defeated the United States 3-1.
