Need help. This might sound like a stupid question but I need someone to answer it. My mother in law is finally getting her Visa to go to the U.S. What I want to know is if she was petitioned by her daughter in New York, when she's ready to travel, does she have to go to New york or can she go to another state first? The problem is that her granddaughter wants her to stop in Miami first so she can see her 3 grandson that live there and then go to N.Y where she is going to live. Need an answer soon.

I think the visa is good for the entire US. Just so she leaves on time and stays out of trouble during her stay all will be well. It should be noted, however, that abiding by the terms of the visa will in no way guarantee her getting another one.

It may not guarantee a renewal of the visa, but chances of getting a renewal are much, much greater if the record shows the visa was used correctly.

Yes, as nordique said, the visa is to the US, not to New York.

Another question, My mother in law is planning to go to the U.S next week, she is going to Florida first. She will have a folder unopened with documents and a paper attached to the front. When she gets to the airport in Santo Domingo, what documents will immigration keep? And, what documents will she be keeping?
