If you take China out of the equation, this is a great idea. I just wish a North American or European country had done this first.

Totally agree NSP. We just ended two bad years of negotiating with China for the release of two arbitrarily jailed Canadians. Another Canadian is still jailed and facing a death sentence.

China accused Canada of doing the US’s dirty work when we remanded their Huawei executive for extradition to the US. Anyone who dares to confront China will pay a heavy price politically and economically. The previous US administration lost out big time when they used tariffs to penalize China.

The DR getting deeper in bed with China is disconcerting and it’s a risk to their relations with the US. The DR government has no idea that the DR is merely a pawn in China’s bigger North American chess game. Perhaps they do but are turning a blind eye to it.

It is one thing to ask to be saved if you are drowning. The Dominican Republic is not drowning. Stay away from China because once they have enough leverage they will dictate your future. Then you will be damned and not saved.
