I plan to visit Haiti during my visit to the DR.

Does anyone know if there are still flights to Haiti from SD? How much does a rd/trip ticket cost? Do other DR airports offer flights to Haiti?

I realize that there is some trouble in Haiti right now. I was wondering if the airlines were still running flights back and forth.

Has anyone here ever taken a fight from SD to Haiti? What about taxis from Port o Price airport? Could you tell me what to expect for Taxi fares?

Can i convert to Haitian currency in the airport at Port o Prince, or should i convert some money while still in the DR?

Thank you for any information.

You must be out of your

Phucking mind! I have friends in Haiti that will take me to their home and then to the South Coast, but I would never go to Haiti on my own.

Unless you have something more than curiosity waiting for you in Haiti, it is not the place to go right now.

Yes there are flights. They are about $100 r/t. You can take a Caribe Tour bus for a little more than half of that. You have to pay the exit tax, no matter.

If you are not a US citizen or from some other "white" place, you will need a visa from the Haitian Consulate in Santo Domingo.

Please re-think this idea.

Caribair flies twice a day from Herrera airport (the city airport in the Herrera district of Santo Domingo, not the big international airport 20 kms from the city) to Port au Prince. There is just one flight on Sundays. It's more like US$100 each way.

There are taxis at P-au-P airport that will ask for about US$20 to Delmas or Petionville where all the better hotels are located. US dollars will do for most things in Haiti: once you are there you can change some to gourdes for smaller purchases.

HB is right in that you should take great care unless you have local contacts, but providing you plan things well - book your hotel in advance and conduct yourself as if you know what you are doing, you should be OK.

Read the Lonely Planet guide, it's written by people who love the country and know it well. It includes the DR as well as Haiti.

Air Jamaica Express offers nonstop flights on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday if you want to fly from SDQ. Good luck there.

When I purchase an airline ticket to Haiti in DR, do I have to book 2 weeks early to get a cheaper rate like in the United States? Is the 100$ ticket each way cost still hold if I buy the ticket the day before I fly to Haiti?

Are there any tour agencies who could help me arrange a trip to Haiti in Santo Domingo?

Thank you for any advice.
